Pathways into Darkness blends first-person shooter and RPG elements with survival horror conventions. Success requires more than just combat; players must also solve intricate puzzles and utilize various items effectively.

Key Gameplay Mechanics:

• Conversations: Interact with the dead using a yellow crystal to gain puzzle clues, monster strategies, and story details. Keywords are essential for dialogue progression.
• Combat: Ammo is scarce, monsters respawn, and players move at a similar pace to enemies. Health is regained by resting (risky due to time acceleration) or rare blue potions, which also cure poison. Initial weapons include a handgun and survival knife.
• Items: Discover various items that grant points (contributing to health) or have unique functions. These include:
  • Weapons: Essential for combat, some use specialized ammo like HE and Sabot.
