Pathways into Darkness features a variety of items that aid the player in their quest. These items are crucial for survival, combat, and puzzle-solving within the alien pyramid. They can be broadly categorized into Weapons, Crystals, Potions, Miscellaneous Items, and Treasure.

• Weapons: Essential for combating the various monsters encountered. Some weapons utilize different ammo types, such as HE and Sabot.
• Crystals: These items grant special powers upon equipping and charging. Each use increases the recharge time, and eventually, the crystal shatters. The yellow crystal is an exception, allowing unlimited communication with the dead.
• Potions: Consumable items found in bottles that provide temporary effects, ranging from invincibility to time manipulation. Some potions also cure poison.
• Miscellaneous Items: These objects are often used to solve puzzles (e.g., the red cloak), enable game features (e.g., the map), store other items (e.g., the canvas bag), or serve unique purposes (e.g., the tinderbox).
• Treasure: Various valuable objects found throughout the game that may contribute to the player's score. Collecting certain items grants points, with every two points awarded translating to one health point.
