Hey there! So, you're diving into the wild world of Pokémon Black and White and want to know where to find all sorts of Pokémon? Let's break down how wild Pokémon encounters work in this game, because it's a bit more involved than just running around!

Tall Grass

You know the drill from older games: just run through the normal tall grass, and a wild Pokémon might pop out to battle you. But Black and White throw in a couple of twists:

• Dark Grass/Double Grass: See that grass that's a slightly darker shade than usual? That's Dark Grass. Pokémon you find here are usually tougher (higher Level) and you'll often end up in a double battle, facing two at once!
• Shaking Grass: Keep an eye out for patches of grass that are shaking violently – you might even hear it! If you run into one of these shaking patches, you're guaranteed an encounter with a rare Pokémon that you wouldn't normally find there. Quick tip: If you're really trying to reach that shaking grass without interruption, using a Repel will stop those random encounters, but it won't stop the shaking grass ones. Also, be aware that if you run into a wild Pokémon *before* reaching the shaking grass, the shaking will stop!

Caves

Inside caves, it's pretty much like the tall grass – every single floor tile can trigger a wild Pokémon encounter. But there's another special thing to watch out for: dust clouds. These appear on the floor and act just like shaking grass, but instead of a Pokémon, you might find an item!

Water

Once you get the HM03 Surf (you'll need to beat the 6th Gym leader first, so it's a ways off!), you can start encountering wild Pokémon just by surfing around on the water's surface. And guess what? Water has its own version of shaking grass: rippling water. Just like shaking grass, these patches of rippling water will give you a shot at finding rarer Pokémon.

Fishing with the Super Rod

After you've beaten the main story, you'll get the Super Rod. This lets you fish in any body of water. You'll see an exclamation mark pop up above your character's head when you can fish, so press the A button quickly to reel in your catch. The cool part is you can even use the Super Rod in rippling water to catch those super elusive Pokémon!
