Prepare for the ultimate challenge! Our guide breaks down each Elite Four member in Pokémon Black and White, offering strategies and type advantages to help you become Champion.

Alright, so you've made it to the Pokémon League! This is it, the big one. Before you head in, make sure you've healed up at the Pokémon Center to the west and, more importantly, stocked up on items. You're going to be facing four tough trainers back-to-back with no breaks, so grab plenty of Potions, Revives, and Full Restores. When you're absolutely ready, it's time to head into the arena.

Here's the cool part: unlike in some older games, you can actually challenge the Elite Four in any order you want. We'll break down each one for you, but remember, if your team isn't quite cutting it, you can always head back to Victory Road to train on wild Pokémon. Need more trainer battles? Fly back to Nimbasa City or Opelucid City to hit up their stadiums or Battle House.

The Elite Four

You've got four powerful trainers standing between you and the Champion title. Here's who you'll be facing:

South-East: Marshal (Fighting-type Expert)

Marshal's team is all about raw Fighting power. His Pokémon are:

PokemonLevelType
Throh48Fighting
Sawk48Fighting
Conkeldurr48Fighting
Mienshao50Fighting

Marshal's biggest weaknesses are Flying and Psychic attacks. They'll absolutely shred his team. However, be a little careful with Flying types, as Mienshao's Rock Slide can pack a serious punch against them. Psychic types might be the safer bet here.

North-East: Caitlin (Psychic-type Expert)

Get ready for some mind games! Caitlin's Psychic-type Pokémon are formidable:

PokemonLevelType
Reuniclus48Psychic
Sigilyph48Psychic/Flying
Musharna48Psychic
Gothitelle50Psychic

Psychic Pokémon are always tough customers. Your best bet here is to bring out Bug or Dark types, as their attacks will be super effective. For Sigilyph specifically, a strong Electric attack will do the trick nicely.

North-West: Grimsley (Dark-type Expert)

Grimsley's got a tricky lineup, mixing Dark types with other powerful combinations:

PokemonLevelType
Scrafty48Dark/Fighting
Krookodile48Ground/Dark
Liepard48Dark
Bisharp50Dark/Steel

Grimsley starts with Scrafty, a Dark/Fighting type. You can hit it hard with a Flying or Fighting type move – yes, Fighting is still super effective against its Fighting side! Honestly, Fighting types are your best all-around choice against most of Grimsley's team.

South-West: Shauntal (Ghost-type Expert)

Shauntal's Ghost types can be a bit unpredictable due to their hybrid typings:

PokemonLevelType
Cofagrigus48Ghost
Jellicent48Water/Ghost
Golurk48Ground/Ghost
Chandelure50Ghost/Fire

While Dark types are generally your go-to for Ghost Pokémon, Shauntal's team has Water, Fire, and Ground coverage to watch out for. Try to pick Pokémon that won't be easily countered. If you don't have a strong Ghost attacker, consider using Water moves against Chandelure or Electric moves against Jellicent.

Once you've defeated all four members of the Elite Four, you'll be ready to face the Champion. Head north, and you'll find N and the current Champion after their battle.
