Quake Champions deathmatch strategies for shareware levels, analyzing cheese and fun factors. Learn about Quad Damage and 150% armor.

Notice: Players are encouraged to ignore the cheese factor if playing old-style deathmatch, which is highly recommended for a more fair game. You are free to play any way you wish.

Cheese Factor: Refers to how abusable a level is. A level that scores high in this category has poorly placed weapons/items, allowing one person to rack up large amounts of frags unfairly using artifacts/weapons, or get excessive health/armor repeatedly.

Fun Factor: Refers to how good a level is for deathmatch. Personal tastes vary.

A. [Start]

  • Cheese Factor: **** (Insanely cheesy due to a loop allowing players to get 200% armor, Quad damage, and +100% health repeatedly.)
  • Fun Factor: **1/2 (Intense and fun, though the missile and grenade launchers can detract. Intense inner area and varied outer area.)

B. [The Slipgate Complex]

  • Cheese Factor: **** (Broken due to Quad damage and Pentagram of protection availability. Two good sniping spots and easy access to +100% health and 100% armor.)
  • Fun Factor: ***1/2 (Very crazy, nonstop carnage with over 8 people. Fun due to less mindless action than e1m6.)

C. [The Castle of the Damned]

  • Cheese Factor: **** (Very cheesy, but powerups are distributed enough to prevent hoarding. Two cheesing methods: 1) +100% health, super Nailgun, Quad damage, and returning for health/Nailgun ammo. 2) 150% armor, grenade launcher, Quake power, and using Quad damage grenades. Be careful of grenade splash damage.)
  • Fun Factor: **** (Pretty fun with a nice flow. Underwater play is neat. Good ambush points and pileups occur in Quad damage area, grenade launcher room, and near teleporters. Respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) spots are decent, with good items nearby.)

D. [Necropolis]

  • Cheese Factor: *1/2 (Very balanced except for a separated loop. Strategy: get 150% armor, teleport to Super Nailgun and ammo, then teleport to the beginning or ride elevator. Rocket launcher is available if uncontested. Ample health in the north hallway.)
  • Fun Factor: ***** (A real rush with intense watery pit moshes. Few sniper spots. Linear enough for constant action but not a slaughter. Evenly distributed weapons and respawn areas near pileup spots.)

E. [Grisly Grotto]

  • Cheese Factor: 1/2 (Almost cheese-free, only the two 150% armors could be hoarded.)
  • Fun Factor: *** (Fun with nifty architecture and good balance. Neat underwater killing and pileups in the outdoor area near the exit. Less exciting due to fun weapons being far from fighting and separated respawn spots.)

F. [Gloom Keep]

  • Cheese Factor: ***** (Extremely cheesy. Two domination techniques: 1) Get super Nailgun, 150% armor, health, then Quad damage, and repeat. 2) Get explosives, ride elevator, lob grenades at lower tiers. Drop grenades if enemies approach.)
