2. Middle Building

Guide to defeating Tansugon in the Middle Building, including enemy types, item strategies, and how to get the Apartment Key and Lock Hacker in Risk of Rain Returns.

Alright, so you've made it to the Middle Building. This place has a few tricky enemies and a boss fight, but nothing you can't handle. Keep your wits about you!

You'll run into a few baddies here: Crab Guns (these can be tough if your weapons aren't upgraded), Wandering Polytanks, Enormous Ants, and Sniper Dogs. Just focus on dodging and using your best attacks on them.

You're looking for two key items here: the Apartment Key and the Lock Hacker. Don't worry about the first floor; there's nothing there for you. Head straight up the stairs on the right.

In the first room you enter, Yazoo will give you a heads-up about a wardrobe. Keep going. The middle room? Yeah, that one's locked for now, so just skip it. Head to the end room and check out the wardrobe there. Surprise! A monster pops out – this is Tansugon.

Now, about fighting Tansugon. This guy's got a nasty sleeping gas attack, so if you've got a Sister's Towel or a Pine Towel, equip it and use it at the start of the turn. It'll protect you from the gas, and you can still attack. Tansugon also likes to hide in a cupboard sometimes. Don't let that stop you; keep wailing on him even when he's hiding. Some attacks might miss, but at least you won't fall asleep!

Once you've taken down Tansugon, head back to Yazoo. He'll give you the Apartment Key. Now, open your inventory, select the Apartment Key, and use it while standing in front of that locked door you passed earlier. Inside, you'll find a wooden box containing the Lock Hacker. Make sure you keep this item; it's super useful for opening locked doors and containers all over the place.
