Learn how to use the Program Maintenance menu in Metal Max Returns to activate and manage C-Unit systems like Ambush, Support, Escape, and Obliteration for your tanks.

Alright, let's talk about keeping your tank's systems in tip-top shape! When you're in your tank, head to the C-Unit menu and select "Program Maintenance." This is where you'll get to tinker with different programs that can give your tank some serious advantages, or sometimes, cause a bit of trouble if you're not careful.

Think of these programs like special abilities for your tank. Each one does something different, and you'll need to decide if it's the right fit for your current situation.

The Ambush System

This one's pretty neat, but it's a bit picky about which Special Equipment (SE) weapons it'll work with. If you turn on the Ambush System and have the SE weapon equipped on the tank you're driving, it won't act like a normal gun. Sometimes it'll trigger, sometimes it won't. The real magic happens when you enable it on a towed tank. This is definitely the best way to use the Ambush System.

The SE weapons that play nice with the Ambush System are the ATM Missile, MC Striker, Excalibur, and ATM Red Peony. That's it – only these four! Any gun that hits multiple enemies or all enemies at once just won't work with this system. You can double-check this yourself on the BSCon; just scroll right when you're looking at a gun's details.

The Support System

This system is another one that only works on a towed tank, but it's a lifesaver for avoiding nasty attacks. For example, if you're fighting the Speedy Turtle, it might try to hit you with a paralyzing attack, a napalm blast, or a rocket. With the Support System active on your towed tank, it'll jump in to block those attacks, meaning your main tank takes zero damage. It's like having a bodyguard for your tank!

The Support System can use almost any Main Gun you have equipped. While it does use up ammo for this defensive backup, the protection it offers is absolutely worth the small cost.

The Escape System

This program is your emergency exit. If you enable the Escape System and your tank gets completely wrecked in a battle, it'll automatically remove itself from the fight and park itself just outside the nearest town. The catch? You'll be left on foot, and you'll have to hoof it back to go pick up your abandoned tank. So, while it saves your tank from destruction, it leaves you stranded!

The Obliteration System

Now, pay attention here: once you switch on the Obliteration System, you cannot switch it off. So, choose wisely! From what we've seen, it seems to prevent your tank from making certain attacks. We suspect it has some other hidden benefit, but honestly, we haven't figured out what it is yet. Use this one with extreme caution!
