iii. Northern Barrier

Learn how to get past the Northern Barrier in Risk of Rain Returns! This guide covers the checkpoint, items, and how to operate the gate.

Alright, so you've made your way to the Northern Barrier, just north of Leorad. Before you can push further, you'll need to make sure you're rolling in a tank – that's the only way they'll let you through this checkpoint. If you're not in one, you'll have to backtrack and grab your ride.

Once you arrive at the small square building that serves as the checkpoint, hop out of your tank and head inside. You'll find a few useful items scattered around: a Healing Drink in the fridge (great for curing Acid status on humans), an Alkali Spray in the sink (for removing Acid on tanks), and Alkali Wax in the stove. Stock up if you need to!

Now, to get the gate open, you'll need an ID card. Chat with the two folks sitting on the right side of the room. The one closer to the wall will give you the card if you tell them you want to pass. The other person might point you east towards Pobre Obre, but for now, focus on that ID card. There's also a gramps in the back room if you fancy a listen.

With the ID card in hand, head outside and walk around to the right, following the narrow passage behind the building. Once you're at the back, open your inventory, select the ID card, and choose to USE it. This will activate the Gate Controller. Interact with the computer screen, select "OPEN" on the left, and then you're free to drive your tank through the newly opened gate to the north!
