Core Attributes Explained — Schedule I Guide

Learn about Schedule I's core attributes, character customization, and the initial gameplay loop including renting a motel room and buying equipment.

This guide explains the core attributes and initial gameplay mechanics of Schedule I. Upon starting, you'll experience a short cutscene, customize your character (which is locked in for the save but changeable via game files), and then begin in front of the bus station.

Starting the Game

After character creation, you'll receive the 'Getting Started' quest. Open your phone (Tab key) to find a message from 'Unknown' directing you to a payphone. This leads you to 'Uncle Nelson,' who asks you to retrieve his stash near the skatepark, containing $375.

Renting a Motel Room

Next, speak to the motel manager, Donna. The quest updates to 'Rent a motel room.' After dialogue, you can pickpocket Donna to reclaim the $75 needed for the room. Enter room 1 to complete the objective. Uncle Nelson will then want to speak with you again at the payphone.

Buying Equipment

The 'Gearing Up' quest begins, directing you to the hardware store. Press 'M' to see the quest marker. At the store, you'll need to deposit cash at the ATM and purchase a grow tent, soil bag, and watering can. It's recommended to also buy 'Plant Trimmers,' 'Packaging Station,' and 10 'Baggies.' A trash grabber and 'Trash bag' are optional but useful for recycling and managing space. If you tell Dan you're a drug dealer, he may gift you 'Speed Grow.' After purchasing, return to your motel room, place the grow tent, and add soil. Then, report back to Uncle Nelson.

Planting your First Seeds

Uncle Nelson introduces Albert Hoover. Check your phone for a message from Albert. You can order seeds via a 'Dead Drop' message. Currently, only 'OG Kush' is available. After placing an order, Albert delivers it to a dead drop location within 30 in-game minutes (30 seconds). Your purchases are on tab, payable at a dead drop behind the hardware store. Dead drops with items are highlighted. After retrieving the seed, sow it in the grow tent. Then, fill your watering can at the sink and water the plant.
