After the intro cutscene and character customization, you spawn near the bus station. Open your phone ('Tab') and read the message from 'Unknown' to start the 'Getting Started' quest.

Go to the payphone to meet 'U.N.' (Uncle Nelson), who instructs you to retrieve his stash near the skatepark. The stash is on a ledge leading to the motel and contains $375.

Speak to the motel manager, Donna, in the adjacent house to accept the 'Rent a motel room' quest. You can then pickpocket Donna to steal back the $75 room fee for a cash boost.

Enter motel room 1 to complete the quest objective. Return to the payphone to speak with Uncle Nelson again.

A new questline, 'Gearing Up', begins. Head to the hardware store (marked by a yellow star on the map, or by following the road left from the motel).

Select 'I need to order a dead drop' and purchase 'OG Kush' seeds. Albert will deliver them to a highlighted dead drop location within 30 in-game minutes (30 seconds). You don't pay immediately; debts are put on a tab.

Retrieve the seeds from the dead drop and sow them in the grow tent by holding the seeds and pressing 'E' near the tent.

Fill your watering can at the sink and water the plant. Sleeping after watering helps plants grow faster and conserves water.

Once the plant is fully grown, use the 'Plant Trimmers' to harvest the buds.

Place down the 'Packaging Station'. Interact with it to package the harvested buds into baggies. Drag baggies to the 'Packaging' spot and buds to the 'Input' spot, then press 'Pack'. Drag each bud into a bag, then the bag into the hopper. Packaged weed will appear in the output.

Tips

Speed-runners can open the motel room door and step inside just enough to trigger the quest completion, then immediately move to the next objective.
Pickpocketing Donna for the motel room fee provides an early cash advantage.
Depositing all cash at the ATM is safer, as you won't lose it if caught by police or if you die.
