Using & Recruiting Scouts

Learn how to unlock, recruit, and replenish scouts in assassins creed shadows. Complete quests like 'Finding New Allies' to gain more.

Unlocking Scouts:

1. Complete the main quests until you finish From Spark to Flame.
2. After building the Kakurega at the Hideout, you will receive your first scout.
3. This initial scout will be used to find intel for one of the first two main quests: The Fatherless Monk or Searching Sakai.
4. Searching south of Sakai on your map will update your objectives for these quests.
5. From this point on, scouts are crucial for advancing the main questline and gathering resources.

Acquiring New Scouts:

After leaving the Hideout for the first time, you will have one scout available. You can unlock more scouts by building and upgrading the Study structure.

• Building the Study unlocks one additional scout.
• Upgrading the Study grants another scout at each level, for a total of three extra scouts from this structure.

To build the Study, you will need Hideout Resources. You can have your scouts smuggle these materials.

To overcome the initial scout shortage, complete the quest Finding New Allies, located just outside the Hideout. This quest will reward you with two Iga survivors who will serve as scouts.

With some effort, you can acquire up to six scouts relatively quickly.

Replenishing Scouts:

Scouts become unavailable for a period after being deployed for tasks like gathering intel or smuggling materials.

• In the “World” (map) tab of the menu, your scouts are listed on the bottom left. White dots indicate available scouts, while empty circles show deployed scouts.
• Scouts are replenished when the season changes.
• If scouts were smuggling, they return with materials at the season change.
• Idle scouts will gather Mon and materials on their own, placing them in a chest at the Hideout.

If you need scouts immediately:

• You can buy more Kakurega across the map, which offer the same functions as the Hideout's Kakurega.
• Replenishing scouts at a Kakurega initially costs 200 Mon per scout.
• This cost can be reduced by upgrading the Kakurega at the Hideout to Lv3.
• Replenished scouts are available for immediate use.
• Rescuing people from random events (bandits, thugs, soldiers) and choosing to ask for help scouting the area will also replenish a scout.

Scouting Objectives and Smuggling Materials:

Scouts primarily assist with gathering intel and smuggling, especially in the early game.

• For intel gathering, quests will provide clues like “He is south of Sakai” or “He is at Gansenji Temple” to help pinpoint deployment locations.
• To deploy a scout, open your “World” (map) tab and press the designated button.
• A white reticle will appear, showing the area your scout will search.
• If a quest objective is within the searched area, it will be marked on your map, allowing your protagonist to proceed.
• Multiple scouts can be assigned to the same area, increasing the search radius with each additional scout.
• The results of scouting are immediate.
