Seasons in diablo iv are designed to add fresh concepts and gameplay features to Sanctuary. These additions typically include new affixes or seasonal focuses, and questlines that may feature familiar characters from the main storyline as well as new ones. Each season also comes with a Battle Pass, and progression can be tracked through a seasonal journal with tasks and objectives.

New seasons are also expected to bring new legendary affixes to the Codex of Power, some of which may be class-specific. These affixes often originate from dungeons, suggesting the possibility of new dungeons or other unexplored content. Blizzard also plans to implement balance changes, affecting skills, talents, and legendaries, similar to adjustments made between the open beta and launch for classes like the Druid, Sorc, and Necromancer.

Players can create seasonal characters specifically for each season. These characters have their own separate banking for currencies and gameplay. When a season ends, these characters transition to become non-seasonal characters, joining your existing pool. This system allows for unique seasonal challenges. Characters created outside of seasons will not have access to new seasonal content and will only experience the base game content and any other additions made to it.

This suggests a recurring seasonal cycle around July, October, January, and April. However, these timings are subject to change at Blizzard's discretion, especially considering the game's launch in early June 2023. This schedule provides ample time within each season to complete desired challenges, such as leveling multiple characters to max level, completing the premium Battle Pass, or achieving personal goals.
