Renown is a crucial new system in Diablo 4, acting as a reputation system that encourages exploration of Sanctuary's regions. It offers powerful, account-wide rewards as you progress through five levels in each region. Completing Renown activities on one character benefits all your characters.

Almost all activities within a region contribute to earning Renown. To achieve maximum Renown in a region and unlock its account-wide boosts, you'll need to engage with most of its content.

Activities that grant Renown and their approximate values:

  • Areas Discovered: 5 Renown
  • Altars of Lilith: 10 Renown
  • Activating Waypoints: 20 Renown
  • Side Quest Completion: 20 Renown
  • Dungeon Completion: 30 Renown
  • Stronghold Completion: 100 Renown

Each region typically offers over 60 discoverable areas, 20+ Side Quests, Dungeons, and Altars of Lilith. Strongholds are fewer but more challenging, often unlocking more Side Quests and Dungeons upon completion. For Altars of Lilith, a dedicated map can be helpful.

Renown Rewards by Level:

Renown Level Points Needed Character Reward Account Reward World Tier
1 200 XP (scales with Level), 3,000 Gold Skill Point +1 Any
2 300 XP (scales with Level), 10,000 Gold Potion Charge +1 Any
3 400 XP (scales with Level), 25,000 Gold Skill Point +1 Any
4 400 XP (scales with Level), 60,000 Gold Max Obols +80 World Tier 3+
5 500 XP (scales with Level), 150,000 Gold Paragon Points +4 World Tier 3+

These rewards are significant as they are account-wide. Earning two Skill Points per region (ten total) is a substantial boost towards the 58 available Skill Points per character. Reaching Renown Tier 2 in each region grants an additional Potion Charge, totaling five extra charges, which greatly enhances survivability, especially for higher difficulties.

While gaining more Max Obols (used for gambling) is useful, it's less impactful than Skill Points or Potion Charges. The final tier's reward of Paragon Points is most beneficial after reaching level 50 and unlocking Paragon Levels, providing four nodes on the Paragon Board.
