Fallout powerful opponent tactics including Garl, Gizmo, Decker, Deathclaw, Lieutenant of Mutant Armies, and The Master of Mutants.
Garl (The Raider Leader)
- 1Garl has 70 hit points and wears Metal Armor, wielding a Desert Eagle .44. He is considered Hard difficulty.
- 2This is one of two fights that can result in your death.
- 3Equip the SMG and attack him directly.
- 4Use stimpacks (in this case, frequently).
- 5Garl has about 14 allies; focus on those wielding guns like Petrox, Tolya, and his female raiders.
- 6Ian is very helpful during this battle.
- The fight is difficult but rewarding due to the equipment gained.
Gizmo (The Casino Owner)
- 1Gizmo has 70 hit points, no armor, and wields a Mauser 9mm. He is Stupid Easy difficulty.
- 2Attack Gizmo first, then Izo.
- 3Izo has 50 hit points, Metal Armor, and is unarmed.
- You will have two good allies, plus Ian and Tycho and Dogmeat.
Decker
- 1Decker has 50-95 hit points, armor that varies from none to leather, and wields strong pistols or melee weapons. He is Medium difficulty.
- 2This is the last of the death fights.
- 3Decker's guards are somewhat tough; Kane has 95 hit points and is difficult to kill. One guard has a sledgehammer.
- You will have Ian, Tycho, Dogmeat, and two Hub Police guards, though the guards have few hit points.
- You might lose Dogmeat in this battle.
Deathclaw (at Hub)
- 1The Deathclaw has 225 hit points, Strong Skin armor, and wields a Claw. It is Somewhat Easy difficulty.
- 2Get Jake's Rocket Launcher and attack the Deathclaw.
- 3Aim shots at the Deathclaw's legs or eyes to cripple them.
- Metal Armor is sufficient.
- Sniper Rifles and Combat Shotguns in conjunction with Combat Armor work well.
The Lieutenant of the Mutant Armies (aka Lou)
- 1The Lieutenant has 250 hit points and armor equivalent to Brotherhood Armor, wielding a Gatling Laser. He is Easy difficulty, but his mutant troopers are Difficult.
- 2He has two super mutants on his left and right, each with about 80-90 hit points, wielding gatling lasers and rocket launchers.
- 3Enter combat mode (a mode that allows for tactical turn-based actions), run in front of him, and use the .223 Pistol at his eyes.
- 4The Lieutenant and his guards will attack. The guards' weapons have an 'area' effect that can be beneficial.
- 5His armor does not withstand rocket launcher damage well.
- The .223 Pistol, Combat Shotgun, and Sniper Rifles are excellent small arms choices.
- A Plasma Rifle makes the fight easier.
- Pick up the Rocket Launcher and Minigun from dead troopers. Miniguns work wonders on mutants with minimal clothing.
- Save often, as there is a small chance of survival if enemies score critical hits with their large weapons.
The Master of the Mutants
- 1The Master has 500 hit points, thick skin armor, and Twin Gatling Laser cannons with unlimited ammo. He can spawn mutants with 50 hit points and good weapons at will. He is Somewhat Difficult, while his mutant troopers are Difficult.
- 2Use the columns for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- 3Stand behind a column, move out one hex on your turn, aim for his eyes (if you have decent skill) or just attack, then fall back.
- 4This method provides a clear line of fire for the mutants he spawns.
- 5With critical hits, he can be defeated quickly; one player scored 119 points on his eyes.
- 6Approximately 300 cells, 35 stimpacks, Power Armor, and a Plasma Rifle are recommended.
- 7If you have a high critical chance or the 'sniper' perk, a gatling laser from a dead mutant can kill the Master in two hits.
- The main worry is the chance of critical hits from the Master or his mutants.
- It is entirely possible to kill the Master in two hits with a gatling laser and criticals.
Lore Note: According to Eric Wills, The Master of the Mutants is what became of Richard Grey. Earlier, Grey was stated to be the Lieutenant of the mutant armies.
Additional Information (from Bernardo Barros):
On the military base, accessing the Vats computer allows you to search logs. Two useful logs are Maxon's and Grey's. Maxon's diary, written by Captain Maxon (founder of the Brotherhood of Steel), details the circumstances of the Brotherhood's foundation. Grey's diary was written by Harold's missing friend.
