It's not worth the hassle right now, though it might make grabbing the crossbow a little less stressful later.

Carefully make your way around the pool, watch out for those slippery spots and sneaky barnacle tongues. You'll find a side area with a ladder. Climb up to a bigger room where a chatty scientist is hanging out, and thankfully, there are some first aid and HEV stations. Keep going past those, and you'll spot a metal beam.
