Guide to defeating Gonarch in High on Life 2's Part 55. Learn strategies for using the hornet gun and explosives to overcome this challenging boss.
Walkthrough
- 1After encountering a dead HEV suit wearer, make your way to the back of a 'whoosh-thing' on the ground. Quicksave.
- 2Run onto the 'whoosh-thing' and jump through the large hole to land outside without taking damage. If you fail, quickrestore and retry.
- 3Follow Gonarch into the cave it entered.
- 4At the cave shaft, jump to the narrow ledge with a light crystal. Turn around and jump towards the light crystal visible in the wall across the shaft. Crouch as you fall to land in section c4a2b without damage.
- 5Section c4a2b: GONARCH COMBAT, STAGE 3
- 6Upon reaching the floor, turn around to see Gonarch enter a pit at the end of a short, slippery cave tunnel. Avoid falling off the edge.
- 7(Optional Skip) You can skip fighting Gonarch by dropping into the pit and using explosives to break the flooring next to the spiky plant cluster. However, Gonarch will attack you with acid and baby headcrabs.
- 8Move slowly into the tunnel. You will begin to slide. Let yourself slide about halfway, then lean on the 'Move backward' key to stop. You should now only be able to move by jumping or heavily leaning on a movement key.
- 9Equip the hornet gun and fire at a spot over the drop-off. Hornets should swerve down and hit Gonarch.
- 10If you don't hear damage sounds ('crunch'), try firing at different spots, including high up. Adjust your position and jump while firing. Avoid sliding too close to the drop-off to prevent Gonarch from throwing acid.
- 11Once Gonarch changes position, it should be easier to hit. Continue using the hornet gun.
- 12If you struggle to hit Gonarch with hornets, use hand grenades or C4 satchel bombs. For grenades, aim carefully as they can bounce off or fall through vines. For satchels, detonate them as soon as they fall out of sight. You may need to jump before throwing and lean backward to avoid sliding.
- 13Hit Gonarch with explosives until it changes position, then resume using the hornet gun, adjusting your aim and position if needed.
- 14After Gonarch is defeated, turn on your flashlight and jump forward. Aim towards the left side of the drop-off.
- 15As you go over the edge, lean on the 'Move backward' key to land on a small ledge above the floor.
- 16Use your flashlight to spot and hornet-shoot all baby headcrabs on the floor. Scan the area carefully before dropping down.
- 17(Alternative Landing) Crouch and lean backward as you go over the edge, then run to the dark corner near the armor batteries. Shoot any remaining baby headcrabs from there.
- 18Collect the four armor batteries clustered together and the nearby ammo canister.
- 19Go to the large hole in the floor created by Gonarch's explosion.
- 20If your health is below 100%, carefully crouch-drop onto the edge of the hole's side area containing a health pool.
- 21After healing, save your game in both a regular and quicksave slot.
- 22Drop to the bottom of the hole to be teleported to the 'Interloper' chapter.
