Explore SimCity 2000 highway layouts: Spiderweb, Grid, Spur, and Downtown methods. Learn optimal city planning for traffic flow.

Spiderweb Method: This method is best suited for larger cities with a central downtown area. Build one primary highway intersection in the middle of your city, with all other highways radiating outwards from this point. It's recommended not to build more than 5 or 6 highways; around 4 is generally sufficient, with one connecting to a map edge to link with neighbors. For fewer highways, consider a single highway loop around the city's center, a common style in Eastern US cities.

Highway Grid: Similar to building roads, this involves creating a grid of highways. Prominent in Los Angeles, you can build a light grid, perhaps with 2 highways running in each direction, forming a central square surrounded by partial squares. This offers a similar effect to the spiderweb method but is more rigid.

Highway Spur: This method is ideal for moderately sized cities and offers a realistic approach for cities with limited expansion potential. Build one highway running across the city from neighbor to neighbor, intersected by another highway. This intersecting highway should not stretch fully from neighbor to neighbor and should curve as needed for the city's layout.

Downtown Highway: This approach is suitable for cities that might not warrant a full highway system. Convert a pre-existing main thoroughfare through your city into a highway that spans the populated area. As your city grows, you can extend the length of this highway.
