Master Lava Reef Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 2! This guide details Act 1, from Spin Dashing through boulders to navigating lava falls and using Flame Shields.

Lava Reef Zone is easier than Sandopolis Zone but still presents challenges. Obstacles include lava, moving platforms, flamethrowers, spiked balls, and spiked platforms. A Flame Shield is highly recommended for this level.

Act 1

Upon landing, drop down two ledges and Spin Dash through the boulders. Press the switch and proceed through the opening. Hop across the rocks, being careful not to fall into the lava. Continue right and climb the steps, avoiding the flamethrowers.

Collect the Invincibility and move right. Run down the slope and cross the lava pool. Press the switch and go through the opening. Spin Dash through the boulders and run through the brown cylinder. Head left and pass the lava pool. The Death Egg is visible in the background, suggesting Robotnik is repairing it.

At the lava waterfall, wait for an opening before crossing. Use the spring to jump to the Starpost. Collect the Flame Shield and go left. Destroy the switch and enter the opening. Jump on the black platform, position Sonic to the left, and Spin Dash to lower the platform.

Go right and press the switch. Enter the opening and descend the steps. Cross the lava waterfall and press the switch. Go through the opening and head right. You can attack the drilling machine, but it will fall into the lava and be destroyed.

After landing, hop across the rocks and press the switch. Climb the steps and Spin Dash upwards. Spin Dash through boulders and use the moving spiked platform. Go left and use another platform. Climb the steps and press the switch. Enter the opening and use the platform.

When the moving platform rises, jump down and head right. Spin Dash through boulders and pass the Starpost. Run down the slope and collect the Flame Shield. When the ledge collapses, go down the steps and head right. Cross the bridge and run down the black tunnel.

Go left and destroy the switch. Run through the opening and head down the slope. Be cautious of the spiked ball as you drop down the gap. Go right and climb the steps. Cross the lava waterfalls. Press the switch and enter the opening. When the lava rises, wait for it to sink before crossing the platforms.

Pass the Starpost and Spin Dash through boulders. Use the moving platforms and press the switch. Enter the opening and climb the steps. Press the switch and run through another opening. Spin Dash through boulders and go down the slope. Press the switch and go through the final opening. Head past the Starpost.
