- Lava Reef Zone (2)

Head right past the stalactites. Use Spin Dash to cross the rising spiked platform. Avoid spiked balls and climb down steps. Stay left of the drilling machine near the lava waterfall.

When the ground collapses, you can drop down to the southern path or take the northern path to Sonic's route. To take the northern path, go left, then right. The drilling machine will be gone. Jump right, climb steps (avoiding flamethrowers), and press the switch to reveal a hidden exit to the right.

Go right and press the switch. Go through the opening and down the steps. Cross the lava waterfall and press the switch. Go through the opening, head right, and attack the drilling machine to make it fall into the lava.

When you land, hop across rocks and press the switch. Climb steps and Spin Dash up. Spin Dash through boulders and use the moving spiked platform. Go left, use another platform, climb steps, and press the switch. Go through the opening and use the platform.

When the moving platform rises, jump down and head right. Spin Dash through boulders and go past the Starpost. Run down the slope and collect the Flame Shield. When the ledge collapses, go down steps and head right. Cross the bridge and run down the black tunnel.

Go left and destroy the switch. Run through the opening and head down the slope. Watch for the spiked ball as you drop down the gap. Go right, climb steps, and head across lava waterfalls. Press the switch, go through the opening, and wait for the lava to sink before crossing platforms.

Go past the Starpost and Spin Dash through boulders. Use moving platforms and press the switch. Go through the opening and climb steps. Press the switch, run through another opening, Spin Dash through boulders, and go down the slope. Press the switch, go through the last opening, and head past the Starpost.
