Learn how to defeat Robotnik's machine and Dr. Robotnik's Giant Robot in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Avoid spikes and prepare for multi-stage boss fights.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
When you appear on the right side of the screen, Robotnik will be behind a wall, controlling his machine. You cannot destroy this mini-boss alone.
  2. 2
Use the 4 elevators to change the gravity and make the spiked robots hit the machine.
  3. 3
If you are on the ceiling, you can Spin Dash (a move where Sonic rapidly spins) to change the position of the spiked robots so their spikes hit the machine. This can be tricky.
  4. 4
When a spiked robot damages the machine, tiny spikes will be sent around the screen. Enter the elevators to avoid getting hurt by them.
  5. 5
When the machine explodes, the wall behind Robotnik crumbles, and Sonic chases him.
  6. 6
You will then fight 3 bosses one after another.
  7. 7
If you lose a life from this point, you will start the boss battles without any Rings (circular items that protect Sonic from damage). Try to succeed on your first attempt.
  8. 8
When Robotnik locks himself inside a giant robot, the floor to the left will start to collapse. Run right to avoid falling off the screen.
  9. 9
Boss Battle: Dr. Robotnik's Giant Robot, Part 1 - This requires 18 hits.
Tips
  • Using the elevators is key to avoiding the spikes that fly around the screen after the machine is damaged.
  • Spin Dashing while on the ceiling can help position the spiked robots for maximum damage against the machine.
  • Be prepared for a series of boss fights after Robotnik's machine is destroyed; losing a life means starting these battles with no Rings.
