He'll tell you that to reach Gage in the Forest Sanctuary, you first need to get through the Lost Woods, which are just west of Whittleton. You'll want to trace a path to the Forest Sanctuary, where that single track in the middle of the woods leads.

Once you enter the Lost Woods, remember the advice! The trees can be a bit tricky, but you're looking for the bare, brown trees (the ones without leaves) that have a large branch. If the branch points right, you go right. If it points left, you go left. The faster you get the path right, the faster your train will go, so be ready for some quick reflexes, especially at the final, fourth tree. Since it always lies, you'll have to choose the path it's not pointing towards.
