Hey there! So you've probably stumbled across some weird little things in the ground in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, right? Those are called Gyroids, and they're actually a pretty cool callback to older games in the series. Long-time fans will be happy to see them return!

Basically, Gyroids are like little artifacts that make strange noises when you activate them. In past games, you'd just dig them up like fossils, and sometimes they'd get in the way of finding museum pieces. But in New Leaf, you could even trade them with Brewster for coffee and goodies, which was neat.

In New Horizons, they've gotten a bit of a glow-up! They look way cuter now, with all sorts of different designs that totally fit the game's vibe.

What's a Gyroid Fragment?

Here's the biggest twist in New Horizons: when you first dig one up, it's not a full Gyroid, it's just a 'Gyroid Fragment'. You might even find one before you meet Brewster, but he's the one who'll properly introduce you to them. He'll give you a fragment and explain that they don't do anything yet. The trick is to dig another hole, bury that fragment, and water it. Come back the next day, dig it up, and voilà – you've got a functional Gyroid!

You can then place these Gyroids anywhere on your island, inside or out. The really fun part is that each one makes a different sound. So, if you place a few together, you can create your own little musical arrangements!

Customizing Your Gyroids

Even with all the unique Gyroid designs out there, you've still got the option to customize them! Just head over to a Crafting Bench, select the 'Customize Gyroid' option, and you can change its color. This is super handy for making your Gyroids match the theme of your island or your home decor. Each customization costs one customization kit, so keep those handy!

Pro Tip: Don't forget to water the Gyroid Fragment after burying it! If you skip that step, it won't mature into a Gyroid the next day.
