Sylvando is a versatile character in Dragon Quest XI S, capable of supporting the party with healing and buffs, or dealing damage with various weapon skills. His effectiveness can be tailored through his diverse skill trees.

Spells

Sylvando learns a variety of support and offensive spells. While early healing spells like Re-Heal are useful initially, they become less impactful later. Accelerate and Decelerate have limited utility due to game mechanics. Key spells include Cock-a-Doodle-Doo for waking up allies and Oomph/Oomphle for boosting attack power, which are highly valuable. His offensive spells, Whoosh and Swoosh, are not as potent as his other damage-dealing options.

Swords

The Sword skill tree offers skills that are not exclusive to Sylvando, meaning other party members can also learn them. While not Sylvando's most specialized weapon, it can be a viable option, especially if other party members are not focusing on swords. The skills available include offensive moves like Flame Slash and Dragon Slash, as well as utility skills like Metal Slash and Miracle Slash.

Knives

The Knives skill tree synergizes well with Erik, who typically uses this weapon type. Sylvando can use knife skills to set up powerful combos for Erik. For instance, Sylvando can inflict status ailments like poison with Cobra Strike, allowing Erik to follow up with Victimiser. Unlocking Nastier Knives increases the chance of inflicting these ailments. Sylvando's exclusive skill in this tree is Sudden Death, which has a chance to instantly defeat an enemy and deals good damage otherwise. He learns this skill later than Erik.

Whips

Whips allow Sylvando to attack multiple enemies at once. While he learns many of the same whip skills as Veronica, he is generally considered a better whip user. Many whip skills have a chance to inflict ailments. The Wyrm Whip skill, found on a locked panel, deals significant damage to a single enemy and can dispel enemy buffs. Sylvando's exclusive whip skill is Lash Batter, which damages a group of enemies and has a chance to Beguile them.

Litheness

The Litheness skill tree contains some of Sylvando's most useful abilities. Sobering Slap is particularly valuable early on, as it can cure sleep, confusion, beguilement, and paralysis for a single ally. It is one of the few skills that can cure Beguilement. Another notable skill, Have A Ball, requires dipping into the Knives tree and hits random enemies multiple times for significant damage.
