Navigate Trodain Castle in Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age — Definitive Edition. Find treasures, defeat enemies like Prince of Darkness, and overcome the boss Dayle to restore night.

This section of the guide covers Trodain Castle, a location accessible in the Tickington area, specifically within the side story 'Altar of the Cursed King'. To access this Tockle, you must have completed the side story in Cobblestone and sent certain NPCs back to the village. Once Cobblestone is rebuilt, locate Dunstan's house north of the church; the Tockle can be found on the bed in the single room.

Enemies:

  • Bobonga (~530 HP)
  • Caped Caperer (~220 HP)
  • Dark Gryphon (~610 HP)
  • Dark Sabrecat (~630 HP)
  • Fromage Grey (~450 HP)
  • Heavy Hood (~490 HP)
  • Hell’s Gatekeeper (~666 HP)
  • Jackal Ripper (~310 HP)
  • King Cureslime (~680 HP)
  • Metal King Slime (~20 HP)
  • Prince of Darkness (~850 HP)
  • Wight King (~320 HP)

The Fromage Grey, Jackal Ripper, and Prince of Darkness are exclusive to this area and can be found inside the castle.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Upon teleporting into the area, you will receive the quest A Worrying Window.
  2. 2
Head north up the giant stairs to find a chest containing 1500G. The main doors are locked.
  3. 3
Go to the eastern side of the courtyard and find an entrance on the side of the building (look for small steps and an awning).
  4. 4
Inside, check the two barrels just above the entrance for 200G.
  5. 5
Continue south down the long hallway, breaking pots for another 46G.
  6. 6
Take the stairs on the left to the second floor.
  7. 7
Enter the room below you to find four treasure chests containing a Seed of Magic, a Gold Bar, a Pretty Betsy, and an Yggdrasil Dew.
  8. 8
Head through the doors at the top of the room and venture west to find another room with two chests containing a Pretty Betsy and a Seed of Therapeusis. Break the barrels in this room for two Magic Beast Hides.
  9. 9
Return to the central part and open the doors on the southern end. This serves as a shortcut to the area near the first chest you found.
  10. 10
Enter the castle through this slightly hidden door on the side.
  11. 11
Look for stairs going up in the northeast corner of the floor, leading to the third floor.
  12. 12
Venture south and enter the room with the piano. Then, enter the room above it to obtain a Garter from a wardrobe.
  13. 13
Double back to the stairs. Go west of them and break the three barrels along the wall for 29G.
  14. 14
Pass through the doors to the south of the barrels to appear outside. Go west and enter the door there.
  15. 15
Go down two flights of stairs (the eastern path on the middle floor has nothing).
  16. 16
Enter the first room to your south and break the two pots for 20G.
  17. 17
Exit and venture east into the throne room.
  18. 18
In the southwest corner of the throne room, find a small room with three pots; one contains 58G.
  19. 19
North of these pots are barrels that contain a Pretty Betsy and 150G.
  20. 20
Exit to the southwest to enter the library. The bookshelf to your left contains the book Look, No Pants!, useful for the Chateau Felix (Dusk) area.
  21. 21
Return to the third floor and take the large staircase to the top.

BOSS - Dayle

  • HP: ~3900
  • Abilities: Tick-Tock (fails), Kafrizz (single target), Kacrack (party), Fizzle (prevents spellcasting).
  • Strategy: Dayle is a magic user. Use Magic Barrier to mitigate damage from his elemental spells. His Tick-Tock spell is ineffective.

Upon defeating Dayle, night will be restored to the area. Your reward is a Shamshir of Light.

To see familiar faces from Dragon Quest VIII, return to the library on the ground floor and inspect the Moonshadow window.
