Need help with Substory 19, Palanquin Paladin, in Like a Dragon: Ishin!? Follow our guide to protect the palanquin and defeat enemies.
Alright, let's get Substory 19, "Palanquin Paladin," sorted out. This one pops up during Chapter 6. You'll need to head over to Rakugai during the daytime. Make your way to Umekojicho, which is just south of Kurogane Smithing. Keep heading south, past the Rakugai Arms Dealer, and then take the eastern path at the very end. You'll spot a palanquin with a few folks around it. Go chat with the old man there, and he'll explain that his master needs an escort out of the area. Accept the job, and let's get moving!
- 1This substory can be a bit tougher than it looks, so make sure you're stocked up on healing items and have some decent upgrades for your Wild Dancer style. This is definitely a DPS check, and you'll want to have any Trooper Cards with area-of-effect abilities ready to go – something like Essence of Violent Wind can be a lifesaver. The main challenge here is keeping the Palanquin from taking too much damage, because if it gets wrecked, you'll fail the substory. It doesn't have a ton of health, and you'll be facing waves of enemies all the way to the end.
- 2You'll be sticking with the Wild Dancer style for most of this, though switching to Gunman to pick off enemies from a distance is an option. For the first group, you'll face three samurai at the end of the path. Go wild with the Wild Dancer's Phoenix Frenzy attack ([Circle], [Square], [Triangle] / [B], [X], [Y]). Just keep an eye on the Palanquin; enemies will always try to get to it.
- 3You don't *have* to defeat every single enemy, as the Palanquin will keep moving unless its path is blocked. However, if you don't thin them out, you'll get overwhelmed pretty quickly. Your top priority is to stop enemies from reaching and damaging the Palanquin.
- 4While you're dealing with the first three samurai, two more will appear from the north. If things get hairy, just stay close to the Palanquin and keep it safe. As you round the next corner, another three enemies will spawn. This is a great time to use any area-of-effect Trooper abilities you have. Try to group enemies up to maximize their impact.
- 5Next up, you'll face a group of six enemies. Again, use those Trooper abilities if you have them. Try to position yourself in front of the Palanquin to slow it down while you deal with the attackers, so the Palanquin doesn't have to take hits. Be aware that at least three of these enemies are gun users, so switch to Gunman style and take them out quickly – they're not very tough. If just one or two enemies get close to the Palanquin, switch to Swordsman to deal with them. But if more than two are closing in, Wild Dancer and Phoenix Frenzy are your best bet.
- 6Be careful not to let the Palanquin get too far ahead, or you might trigger the next group of enemies to join the current fight. After you deal with the group of six, there will be three more enemies, unless they've already joined you. A little further on, another three will appear, followed shortly by another three. It's easy to get overwhelmed here, so just focus on protecting the Palanquin and don't chase enemies too far. When you see the large wooden bridge ahead, you're almost there! Use all your Trooper abilities and area-of-effect attacks whenever enemies get close to the Palanquin.
- 7Once you've successfully escorted them across the bridge, you'll encounter Hayakaze, the guy who's apparently smitten with Sayoko-sama. He's the final obstacle in this substory. Treat him like any other one-on-one fight you've had, and you should be fine.
Tips:
- Seriously, bring plenty of healing items. You'll need them.
- Make sure your Trooper Cards have area-of-effect abilities. They're a huge help against large enemy groups.
- Wild Dancer is your go-to style here. Try to get it upgraded to at least rank 10.
- Upgrade your gun and katana to at least the
