Alright, so you're looking to tackle Substory 48, huh? It's called 'The Way of the Sammerai' and it pops up in Chapter 6. Don't worry, it's a pretty straightforward one, but I'll walk you through it step-by-step.
Where to Start:
First things first, you'll need to be in Chapter 6. Head over to Fushimi. Look for the dojo that's usually empty, way up in the northwestern corner of the map. From there, just head south and then west. You should spot some folks gathered in a corner. Go chat with them, and a scene will kick off to start the substory.
Walkthrough:
So, you'll find a foreigner trying to convince some samurai to teach him the ways of the warrior. They're not too pleased with his persistence, so they decide to teach him a lesson. That's where you, Ryoma, step in to break things up. The foreigner then explains his desire to become a samurai, and asks if you'll teach him. Naturally, you agree!
You'll head into the dojo for your first fight. It's against the foreigner himself. Don't sweat this one; it's pretty easy. Just keep in mind you'll be using wooden swords, so your damage won't be as high as usual.
After you win, the foreigner will say he'll keep training and meet you back at the dojo. To speed things up, you can just pop into the nearby singing bar and then come right back to the dojo. You'll find him waiting outside. Chat with him, and get ready for round two!
This second battle is a bit tougher, but still nothing too crazy. Once you've bested him again, head to the singing bar one more time, then return to the dojo. You'll see a scene with some kids and the foreigner, and then it's time for a third battle. Like the last one, it's a little more challenging, but you should be able to handle it.
After the third fight, it seems like the foreigner needs some time to reflect on his samurai journey. You'll regain control outside the dojo. Now, make your way to Fushimi Ichibangai. Head to the southernmost bridge there. You'll see the same kids from earlier getting hassled by another samurai. The foreigner steps in to protect them, and this leads to a big fight!
This time, it's you and the foreigner against nine enemies. Don't worry too much about the regular enemies, but keep a close eye on the foreigner. Make sure he doesn't get knocked out – that's the main thing to watch for.
Once the dust settles, the foreigner, Tom, will thank you and decide to head back home. That's the end of the substory!
Post-Substory Bonus:
There's a little something extra you can do after finishing. Head over to the Shinsengumi barracks. Right outside the main entrance, you should see Tom again. If you talk to him there, he'll give you his Trooper Card, which is pretty good – it's an Epic rarity!
- Helped train the foreigner: 400 Virtue; Epic Support Trooper Card, Tom (found outside the Shinsengumi Barracks after finishing)
