First off, you start with the basics – swords, axes, and hammers. These are your bread and butter for both fighting and gathering resources. Axes get you wood, hammers smash rocks and ore, and swords are your go-to for general combat. They're super useful because they cover two needs at once: fighting and survival.

As you get further into the game, you'll start finding or unlocking more specialized weapons. Crossbows can drop from enemies early on, and you'll find ways to get their recipes later. The real game-changers, though, are unlocked by taking down specific bosses:

• Guns: You'll get the recipe for these after defeating Jade the Vampire Hunter.
• Greatsword: This bad boy is unlocked by taking down Tristan the Vampire Hunter. You'll want to be around item level 44 for this fight, and he patrols the Farbane Woods.
• Whip: Domina the Blade Dancer, a level 60 boss found in Gloomrot South, drops the recipe for this.

The main way to unlock research is through specialized research stations you build in your base. There are three main tiers:

1. Research Desk: This is for unlocking Merciless Copper Weapons.
2. Study: Use this to research Merciless Iron weapons.
3. Athenaeum: This is your go-to for unlocking Sanguine Weapons.

Once you have the right station built, you can use resources like Paper or Scrolls (depending on the tier) to craft random research. If you're aiming for a specific recipe, you'll need to find a research book that drops it. These books can be rewards from defeating bosses, found while fishing, or looted from chests scattered across the map. They can grant you recipes for Merciless and Sanguine gear, but also armor, base decorations, and other random goodies.

There are a couple of other ways to get your hands on some seriously high-tier weapons too. You can get Ancestral weapons by repairing broken ones at the Ancestral Forge. The parts for this come from the Vampire trader found in the Ruins of Mortium. And for the ultimate gear, there are Legendary weapons, which are essentially gacha-style drops from the end-game zone, the Ruins of Mortium. These come with special affixes that can really boost specific builds.
