Alright, let's talk about Anders in Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening. He's a pretty complex character, and helping him out is a key part of his story arc.

Walkthrough: Freedom for Anders

  1. First things first, head to Amaranthine and find Namaya. She's usually hanging out in the northeast part of the city. Chat with her and agree to help Anders out. This will kick off the quest "Freedom for Anders."
  2. Next up, make your way to the Abandoned Warehouse. It's located pretty close to the merchants in Amaranthine.
  3. Once you're inside, check the chest right in front of you, then move on to the wooden crate, armoire, and another crate on the opposite side. You'll find some good loot here: Lorekeeper’s Mitten, Lorekeeper’s Boots, Blood Promise, Lorekeeper’s Cowl, Lightning Rod, and Aqua Magus.
  4. Continue heading north. You'll run into a character named Rylock. He's going to force you into a fight or make you give up Anders. Best to fight him!
  5. After dealing with Rylock, enter the northern room. Check the bookshelf for a Potent Health Poultice Recipe and Lyrium: The Voice of the Maker.
  6. You'll find two chests in this area. One holds an Enchanter Cowl and Charm of Flame, while the other just has some coin.
  7. Finally, there's a shelf in the back corner that you can loot. Once you've grabbed everything, leave the warehouse, and you'll complete the quest.

Dialogue Points

Throughout your journey, you'll have opportunities to discuss certain topics with Anders. These can deepen your understanding of him and influence your relationship. Keep an eye out for these conversation starters:

  • Vigil’s Keep: Statue of Andraste
  • Kal’Hirol Trade Quarters: Bucket of Lyrium
  • Amaranthine: Tree

Gifts

Giving Anders gifts is a great way to build rapport. Pay attention to what he likes!

  • If you give Anders the Kitten, he'll actually start a dialogue with you, and it even becomes a usable item called Ser Pounce-a-Lot! How cute is that?
