Possible Ending Scenarios:

  • Alistair rules with Anora: Anora may refuse to marry the murderer of her father. If Loghain is to die, you must kill him. If Loghain lives, Alistair will only take the throne if he has been changed by his sister.
  • Alistair rules with you (Female Human Noble): You need at least neutral approval with Alistair. You must be female and pass a Persuasion check.
  • Alistair rules alone: Easier to achieve if he has been changed by his sister and Loghain is dead.
  • Anora rules alone: Easier than Alistair ruling alone, as he is reluctant to be king. Loghain's fate is irrelevant.
  • Anora rules with you (Male Human Noble): You must let Loghain live, or have Alistair kill/execute him (not you).

The Final Battle:

Regardless of the ending scenario, you will face a battle. Focus on Loghain to halt the battle prematurely. Accept the duel challenge and fight as you see fit. You can kill Loghain, but who performs the deed influences the endings. Alternatively, you can make him undergo the Joining. This grants the quest “The Final Battle”. After leaving the estate, you will encounter Slim Couldry. Accept the update for “The Tears of Andraste”. You can proceed to Redcliffe, but entering the castle prevents further world map exploration, so complete any desired side quests beforehand.
