Master the Doppelganger boss fight and the Dragon's Lair challenges in Guild Wars 2. Get class-specific strategies and tips for bonus objectives.
Walkthrough
- 1Priest Bones: Collect crystals and run them to the nearest priest bones. There are three sets of bones. This adds about 2 minutes to the mission time.
- 2Doppelganger (Augury Rock): After completing the previous three missions, speak to Great Ritual Priest Zahmut at Augury Rock. Accept his challenge and enter. Walk through the three circles near the end to open the mountain. Inside, you will face a mirror image of yourself with level 15 attributes. It uses a bow at range and a sword or axe up close, and can only use skills from your skill bar. Beating it yields 50000 XP.
- 3Elementalist Strategy: Use attunement and aura of restoration before stepping on the last stone. Skip the movie. If the mirror uses enchantments, cast Fire Storm. If it casts Fire Storm, cast Meteor Shower. If it casts Meteor Shower, dodge and attack with Fireballs or Flares. Ether Renewal is useful. Maelstrom can substitute for Meteor Shower if you are in a water attunement.
- 4Mesmer Strategy: Use Backfire and Empathy. Strafe back and forth.
- 5Monk Strategy: Use Healing Breeze and Retribution. Cast Healing Breeze on yourself and either let the mirror kill itself by attacking you or attack with your rod. You should be able to absorb damage and kill it quickly for the bonus. Use secondary class skills if you have them, but keep Healing Breeze.
- 6Necromancer Strategy: Bring health sacrificing skills that aren't good for damage. Let your doppelganger kill itself.
- 7Ranger Strategy: Bring as many useless spirits as possible and Penetrating Shot. Spam Penetrating Shot while your doppelganger casts its spirits.
- 8Warrior Strategy: Warriors generally have no issues. If you do, use a skill like Frenzy. When your doppelganger uses Frenzy, hit it with high-damage skills (which will now do double damage). Do not use Frenzy yourself.
- 9Bonus: Kill the Doppelganger in under 50 seconds. The strategies above should allow for this.
- 10Dragon's Lair (mis18): Seek an audience with Glint by defeating the six facets first. Each facet grants an elite skill for its represented class (Monk, Ranger, Mesmer, Elementalist, Warrior). Consider bringing a Signet of Capture.
- 11Area Penalties:
- 12Area 1: Health degeneration of 3.
- 13Area 2: Slower movement, cannot use speed skills.
- 14Area 3: Reduced energy regeneration, enemies explode in a death nova that poisons you.
- 15Area 4: No apparent penalty.
- 16Area 5: Small zones cast random Elementalist skills (Firestorm, Maelstrom, Chain Lightning are common).
- 17Area 6: Ground periodically shakes, knocking players down for about three seconds. Most enemies are unaffected.
- 18Bonus: Kill Glint. After the movie, before exiting her lair, pick up one of her eggs. Glint is level 31 and difficult. Close proximity causes 100 damage per second. Below half health, she uses healing skills. She targets the player with the egg first. Use -10 arrows of health regeneration. Her other spells slow energy regeneration and exhaust you when casting. She also gains life when hit by non-physical damage. If Glint kills you, she will resurrect you and you will still get credit for the primary mission.
- Doppelganger: 50000 XP
- Dragon's Lair (Primary): Not specified, but completion is required to attempt the bonus.
Tips
- For the priest bones, count on the extra distance taking 2 minutes from the mission time, potentially more if you need to clear the area.
- For the Dragon's Lair bonus, there is nothing to lose by trying, aside from a death, as Glint will resurrect you if she defeats you.
