Walkthrough

    After the Death Egg armor is destroyed, you will hover upwards. Head right and cross the electric bridge, then go through the anti-gravity passageway.

    When faced with a choice of direction, take the eastern route. Climb the steps and go right.

    Cross the conveyor belt and climb more steps. Go left and use the elevator.

    Head right and cross the electric bridge. Hop across moving platforms and go down a conveyor belt.

    Pass the Starpost and go down another conveyor belt, this time on the ceiling. Dodge rockets by jumping constantly.

    Go left and use the springs. Go right and use the elevator.

    When you reach dropping platforms, stand on the last one to the left. Wait for the last one to the right to rise, then hop onto it and jump right.

    Watch out for the electric ceiling as you pass the Starpost.

    Cross the conveyor belt and use the elevator. Go left and use the sound wave machine.

    Go right and use another machine. Go through the anti-gravity passageway and use the machine.

    Climb the steps and take the elevator. Board the next elevator and go down the steps.

    Ride the conveyor belt and go past the Starpost. Take the elevator to face the Shielded Sphere Machine Mini-Boss.

Mini-Boss Battle: Shielded Sphere Machine - 8 Hits

  1. When eight balls circle the machine on the floor, hit the eye. Each hit causes a ball to explode, scattering tiny spikes.
  2. Try to get back any lost Rings quickly to hit the eye constantly.
  3. When the balls extend, wait for them to circle the machine again before hitting the eye.
  4. After all balls are destroyed and the eye has been hit 8 times, it will attack.
  5. Two spiked platforms will now circle the eye. Jump on these platforms to hit the eye.
  6. Wait for the eye's laser to disappear before attacking.
  7. If the eye fires the laser and hovers towards you, the rotating spiked platforms can hurt you.
  8. Go to the opposite side of the screen and duck to try to avoid the spikes.
Tips
  • This is considered the hardest Mini-Boss in Sonic & Knuckles.
  • Be prepared to dodge spikes from exploding balls in the first phase.
  • In the second phase, carefully time your jumps onto the spiked platforms to hit the eye, and be aware of the laser attack.
  • If the eye fires its laser and moves towards you, position yourself to avoid the spiked platforms.
