Guide to Sonic & Knuckles Special Stages: Learn how to collect Chaos Emeralds, grab blue spheres, and avoid red spheres to unlock Super Forms!

Alright, let's talk about the Special Stages in Sonic & Knuckles! These are super important because they're where you'll snag all seven Chaos Emeralds. You'll need to complete seven of these tricky stages to unlock Sonic and Knuckles' awesome Super Forms. Don't worry if you don't get 'em all on your first try; the game's designed so you can keep trying!

How to Get There: You'll find at least two Giant Rings in each Act of every Zone (except Death Egg Zone). Jump into one of these, and BAM! You're in a Special Stage. Just remember, once you use a Giant Ring, it's gone for good.

Your Goal: The main objective here is to collect all the blue spheres scattered around the stage. Grab 'em all, and you'll earn a Chaos Emerald. If you manage to collect 50 Rings during a Special Stage, you'll get a Continue. And if you're a total pro and collect *every single* Ring, you'll even earn a Perfect (which is an extra life!). For now, though, focus on those Chaos Emeralds – getting Perfects can be a whole other challenge for later.

Watch Out! As you play, the music will speed up, and you'll start moving faster. This can make controlling your character pretty tough, so stay alert!

Special Sphere Types:

• Blue Spheres: These are your main targets! Collect them all to win the Chaos Emerald.
• Yellow Spheres: Grab one of these, and you'll be catapulted 5 spheres ahead. Handy for covering ground quickly!
• Star Spheres: These send you flying back in the opposite direction. It's usually best to dodge them, as they can easily send you crashing into a dreaded red sphere.
• Red Spheres: These are your worst nightmare! Touching a red sphere will kick you right out of the Special Stage. Avoid them at all costs!
• Turning Blue Spheres Red: Be careful not to go backward through blue spheres you've already passed, as they'll turn red and become hazards.

Making Rings Appear: To create Rings, look for square formations of blue spheres. Grab the spheres along the outer edge of the square, and the whole formation will turn into Rings for you to collect.

If You Fail: Don't sweat it if you don't complete a Special Stage. The game keeps track! The next time you enter a Special Stage, you'll cycle through them in order. So, if you failed Stage 1, you'll try Stage 2 next. This continues until you beat Stage 7. After that, the sequence just repeats, giving you more chances. Once you've collected all 7 Chaos Emeralds, you won't be able to access Special Stages anymore. But hey, those Giant Rings you find will now give you 50 Rings each, which is a nice consolation prize!
