After opening the Prison Egg, you will automatically move right, entering Carnival Night Zone.

EggRobo will drill two spiked chains in random directions.

EggRobo then moves his machine through the first spiked chain and then through the other one.

Tips

Avoiding the spiked chains is difficult as EggRobo can launch them from anywhere on the screen.
The debris that falls when he drills the chains will not hurt you, but the spikes can, so watch out.
Your best bet is to position Knuckles in the center of the screen, as EggRobo rarely drills there.
When you are hitting EggRobo, make sure you do not touch the thrusters by mistake, unless you have a Flame Shield.
