Learn how to effectively use heavy weaponry like the GEP Gun and Flamethrower in Deus Ex Remastered. Understand skill benefits, targeting augmentations, and ammo types.
Walkthrough:
This section covers the Heavy Weapons skill in Deus Ex Remastered, focusing on the GEP Gun and Flamethrower.
Heavy Weapons Skill
This skill affects the accuracy and damage of heavy weaponry, including flamethrowers, LAWs, and the experimental plasma and GEP guns.
- Untrained: Base accuracy and damage. GEP Gun locks target in 2.0 seconds.
- Trained: 4% accuracy increase, 20% damage increase. GEP Gun locks target in 1.7 seconds.
- Advanced: 12% accuracy increase, 50% damage increase, no movement penalty. GEP Gun locks target in 1.2 seconds.
- Master: 25% accuracy increase, 100% damage increase. GEP Gun locks target in 0.5 seconds.
While the GEP Gun and Flamethrower don't significantly benefit from skill increases due to their inherent power, the Plasma Rifle does. However, the Plasma Rifle is considered a less optimal choice for standard play.
Targeting Augmentation Boost
Heavy weapons are also boosted by the Targeting Augmentation:
- Level 1: 10% damage increase
- Level 2: 20% damage increase
- Level 3: 30% damage increase
- Level 4: 40% damage increase
Weapons
Guided Explosive Projectile Gun (GEP Gun)
The GEP Gun, loaded with Rockets, is one of the most useful tools in the game. It can destroy almost anything, including cameras, turrets, laser grids, doors, panels, grates, barrels, bots, and humans. With sufficient ammo, it can handle most threats. Its target recognition feature can be useful for distant patrolling bots. The time it takes to lock onto a target is reduced by training. Its main downside is its large 8-panel inventory space requirement.
GEP Gun - Rockets
Standard rockets provide a reliable way to destroy targets. Ammo is generally sufficient if not used excessively against human enemies.
GEP Gun - WP Rockets (White Phosphorus)
When filled with WP Rockets, the GEP Gun becomes a powerful crowd-control weapon. It creates a large splash radius that can set enemies aflame or char them instantly. Care must be taken to avoid the splash radius yourself. This is considered the most lethal crowd-control option in the game.
Note: White phosphorus is an incendiary weapon regulated by international law. Its use against civilians is illegal. It burns on contact with air and can stick to and sink into human skin. It was nicknamed 'Willie Pete' during the Vietnam War.
Flamethrower
The Flamethrower is a surprisingly quiet weapon in terms of its activation, though the results are anything but stealthy. It sets enemies on fire until they die. While Men in Black may require multiple applications and Commandos may not ignite at all, reducing its effectiveness later in the game, it requires no specific skill to use effectively.
