Continue your Deus Ex Remastered journey in Part 48, meeting Tracer Tong and receiving new objectives at VersaLife.

Enter the building and proceed down the stairs, then open the door and follow the corridor. You will find a security panel and a computer terminal. The computer contains no emails, and since you are in friendly territory, there is no need to disable any cameras (surveillance equipment that monitors an area). The login for both the computer and the security terminal is GQUICK/VICKY_CHEN or TTONG/623RA. In the kitchen below, you can find a recipe for Chinese Silver Loaves.

Notes: This is a working recipe for bread dough. It is described as having a soft, subtly fragrant interior with a moist biscuit texture, enjoyable with or without seasoning.

Descend further down the stairs into a large hall with bunk beds to the West. Below the beds, you can find a MEDKIT (a medical supply that restores health). In one of the top beds, you can find a LOCKPICK (a tool used to open locked containers or doors) which requires Speed Enhancement (an augmentation that increases movement speed) to reach. Beneath a cushion, you can find a book which is the journal of Gordon Quick, detailing a Romeo & Juliette type relationship.

Notes: The Celestial Kingdom is a nickname for China. The Old Gods are not Buddhist; Buddhism does not recognize gods. This tradition is Taoist, and Buddhism and Taoism often blend in Hong Kong's religious practices.

On the North wall, find the Keypad with the code 1997. To the right, you will find a RIOT PROD (a riot control weapon) and two PROD CHARGERS (ammunition or power source for the RIOT PROD). Further right, you will find a SWORD and two stacks of five THROWING KNIVES (a type of projectile weapon).

Follow the path and find the Button on the West wall in the storage room. The guard here, Tong's guard, may mention that Alex Jacobson is also present. The guard carries a PLASMA RIFLE (a powerful energy weapon), but another can be found nearby if needed. You will then meet Tracer Tong.

Primary Goals:

  1. Go to the center of the Operating Theater so that Tracer Tong can deactivate the killswitch and restore augmentation functionality (special abilities or enhancements).

Notes: Important NPC (Non-Player Character) names in Hong Kong follow the pattern: English first name, Asian last name. Tracer is a reference to TraceRT, a utility for tracking network data packets. A Tong is similar to a Triad, a Chinese organized crime group. Tong's face is scarred, implied to be from frequent, unconcerned augmentation installations and removals.

In this room, you can find a 100 CREDIT CHIT (a form of currency) and JOCKS TONNOCHI ROAD NANOKEY (a key item). One book lists all available nano-augmentations (advanced biological enhancements) in the game, suggesting MJ12 (a fictional secret organization) experimented with them. Another book details Project Dibbuk, and espionage was conducted from UNATCO's HQ (United Nations Anti-Terrorist Coalition Headquarters) in New York, involving Alex Jacobson.

Notes: ECHELON is used for corporate espionage. UNATCO SigInt (Signals Intelligence) is used for skilled intrusions into Chinese corporate data systems.

Proceed West and turn left. One level down, in the Med bay, you will find a Med Bot (a medical repair unit) and a BIOELECTRIC CELL (a power source). Further in the Med bay, you will encounter an old friend.

Notes: An email string instructed Jock to observe Maggie, confirming TT is Tracer Tong. Tong uses the UnderNet for communication, similar to Smuggler and Alex. Crypto boards relate to cryptography, used for encrypted and likely illegal communication. Daedalus is supposedly Echelon IV.

Upstairs in this room, you can find a PLASMA CLIP (ammunition for a plasma weapon) and a MULTITOOL (a tool that can perform various functions, such as hacking or lockpicking) in a cabinet. When leaving the Med lab, turn left to find the machine Tracer Tong requires you to stand in. Return to Tong.

Primary Goals:

  1. Get the ROM-encoding for the Dragon's Tooth sword from the basement laboratories at VersaLife.

Tracer Tong gives you a new mission, a login for the computer, and an elevator code: 06288. Hundley was previously mentioned by Red Arrow members and on a DataCube in Maggie Chow's place.

Using JCDENTON/SANCTUARY on the nearby computer reveals three emails. Daedalus, the rogue AI (Artificial Intelligence), provides an additional Goal at VersaLife: find and destroy the Universal Constructor, which creates the man-made virus called the Gray Death.

Notes: HKNET is the local Hong Kong network. Sam Carter sent an email with 'SitRef', a typo for 'SitRep' (Situation Report), a military term. You have two goals at VersaLife: Tong wants you to calm the Triad war, and Daedalus wants you to locate the Universal Constructor.

West of this room, past a right turn, you can find SABOT SHELLS (ammunition), a PLASMA RIFLE, BALLISTIC ARMOR (protective gear), a MULTITOOL, a REBREATHER (equipment for breathing underwater), and a CROWBAR (a tool for prying open objects). Crates contain a CLIP WEAPON MODIFICATION (an upgrade for weapons), HE AMMO (High Explosive ammunition), a LAM (Lurker Attack Module, a type of mine), four FLARES (a signaling device), and TRANQUILIZER DARTS (non-lethal ammunition). A Repair Bot (a unit that repairs equipment) is also found here. Leave the compound.

You have one last side-quest treasure hunt before heading to VersaLife.
