Learn about Electronics, Medicine, Computer, and Swimming skills in Deus Ex Remastered. Understand how each skill level affects gameplay and your agent's abilities.
Walkthrough
- 1Electronics: This skill allows agents to more efficiently bypass security systems using multitools (a device used to interact with control panels and electronic locks). The effectiveness of a multitool increases with skill level: Untrained decreases lock strength by 10%, Trained by 25%, Advanced by 40%, and Master by 75%. While Training is often sufficient, skipping the Computer skill makes Electronics more valuable, especially if you struggle to find keycodes.
- 2Medicine: Practical knowledge of human physiology improves medkit (a medical item that restores health) efficiency. An Untrained medkit restores 30 Hit Points, Trained restores 60, Advanced restores 75, and Master restores 90. The increase from Untrained to Trained is significant. The Medicine skill does not reduce the duration of poisoning, despite flavor text suggesting otherwise. The Regeneration Augmentation (a permanent enhancement that passively restores health) makes higher Medicine skill levels less critical.
- 3Computer: This skill enables the covert manipulation of computers and security consoles. Untrained allows basic interaction with ATMs, Security Consoles, and Computer Terminals but no hacking. Trained allows hacking of ATMs, Cameras, and Doors, extracting 50% of an ATM's base value, with a 10-second hack time and 25-second detection window. Advanced allows hacking Turrets, extracting 100% of an ATM's base value, with a 5-second hack time and 35-second detection window. Master reduces energy loss upon detection to 50 units, allows extracting 150% of an ATM's base value, with a 2.5-second hack time and 60-second detection window. Gaining the 'Hack' option is game-changing, reducing reliance on DataCubes. Advanced is recommended. The extra credits gained at Master level are difficult to spend meaningfully. Hacking uses an ICE Breaker (Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics, a term for security software).
- 4Swimming: This skill is crucial for underwater operations. Untrained grants 20 seconds of oxygen, Trained 30 seconds, Advanced 40 seconds, and Master 50 seconds before drowning begins. Higher levels are helpful in later game areas with many bodies of water. Advanced allows travel without damage, but the Regeneration Augmentation mitigates drowning damage. At Trained, with one or two Rebreathers (items that provide oxygen), you can manage. If you install the Aqualung Augmentation (an enhancement that allows indefinite underwater breathing), keeping Swimming at Untrained provides some benefit.
Tips
- If you can open 50 Hardness chests and cabinets with your Dragon's Tooth Sword, Advanced Lockpicking (a skill for opening locked containers) becomes less critical. Otherwise, it's very important, especially if you miss Nanokeys (special keys for high-security locks). Using a GEP Gun (a rocket launcher) to destroy doors also reduces the need for Lockpicking.
- The tension wrench (a tool used in lockpicking) holds picked pins while plastic polymers perform the actual picking. These polymers become useless after a finite number of uses.
- For Electronics, Training is generally sufficient unless you skip Computer.
- Medicine's primary benefit is increasing medkit healing from 30 to 60 Hit Points.
- The Computer skill's 'Hack' option is highly recommended, at least to Advanced.
- Master level Computer skill offers diminishing returns on ATM hacking profits.
- For Swimming, Trained level is often sufficient with Rebreathers, especially if you have the Aqualung Augmentation.
