Explore the Plasma Rifle, LAW, and other heavy weapons in Deus Ex Remastered. Learn their strengths, weaknesses, and best use cases in this detailed guide.

This section covers several heavy and pistol-based weapons in Deus Ex Remastered, detailing their effectiveness, statistics, and unique characteristics.

Heavy Weapons

Plasma Rifle

The Plasma Rifle is a heavy weapon with a large splash area that deals fire damage. However, its damage is unfocused and often not enough to kill targets instantly. It is considered less useful than the GEP Gun and takes up significant inventory space (8 squares). Its effectiveness is comparable to the Stealth Pistol, but it is much larger. It deals only 25% damage to bots, 50% to Commandoes, and no damage to Grays due to its fire damage type.

  • Notes: Plasma weapons are considered strange technology in the game's world. They superheat magnetically-doped plastic slugs into plasma. The game categorizes plasma weapons as dealing Fire damage.

LAW (Light Anti-Armor Weapon)

The LAW is the most powerful weapon in the game, capable of obliterating targets within a large radius. However, it is an expendable item, with one shot consuming the entire weapon. It occupies 4 inventory squares, which is a significant sacrifice for a single explosion, especially when LAMs (Lock-on Attack Munitions) are available. The LAW is most useful at Vandenberg, where four are found and needed to destroy four bots in an open area.

Pistols

Pistol - 10MM AMMO

The standard 10mm Pistol is a solid firearm, though its main competition is the Stealth Pistol. Its primary weakness is the inability to be silenced. It is more powerful and reliable per shot than the Stealth Pistol but lacks its larger clip and higher rate of fire. The Pistol is considered a useful weapon group overall, especially when paired with the Mini-Crossbow and Stealth Pistol. Boosting its damage and accuracy is beneficial.

  • UNTRAINED: Base accuracy and damage.
  • TRAINED: 4% accuracy increase, 20% damage increase.
  • ADVANCED: 12% accuracy increase, 50% damage increase.
  • MASTER: 25% accuracy increase, 100% damage increase.

Note: Pistol skills are always considered Trained at the start, even if downgraded during character creation.

  • Notes: 10MM Ammo is designed for maximum stopping power with minimum risk of over-penetration in urban settings. The text on the weapon's slide during reload may read '1MM/IMM Austin' or 'Aurtin', possibly referencing the Ion Storm studio location.

Stealth Pistol - 10MM AMMO

The Stealth Pistol is a weaker version of the normal Pistol but features an integrated silencer. It can be heavily modified, and when fully upgraded, it can function as a mini-Sniper Rifle using only a single inventory slot. It is considered the best fully automatic gun in the game due to the Assault Rifle's limitations. While silent and possessing a larger clip and higher rate of fire than the standard Pistol, it has lower base accuracy and damage. It accepts fewer modifications than the standard Pistol. The Stealth Pistol is superior for stealth missions and shootouts, while the normal Pistol is better for calculated headshots.

  • Notes: The Stealth Pistol is based on the fictional Seburo CX from Masamune Shirow's Appleseed manga. It features a 'bullpup' design, where the action is located behind the trigger group.

Mini-Crossbow - Darts

The Mini-Crossbow is described as a silent and sneaky weapon, essential for players who prefer a stealthy approach.
