Defeat the Octaking in Duke Nukem Forever. Learn Octaking health, effective weapons, and strategy for phase two.
- 1After the pep talk from General Graves, enter the main generator room.
- 2Fall off the broken bridge to the lower floor. You can find a Shotgun in the lockers underneath the bridge.
- 3Navigate through the alien infestation, dodging electrical shocks and puff bombs. Look for an EDF crate with Steroids on a walkway to your far left.
- 4Climb a ladder, then use a control bar to swing a crane to the right.
- 5Cross to the generators using the makeshift bridge and defeat two Pregnators. The generator on the right contains an EDF crate with a Pipe Bomb and a Laser Trip Mine.
- 6Climb the ramp to the generator emitting electricity. Fall through a gap in the railing onto a tentacle.
- 7Defeat another pair of Pregnators after dropping down.
- 8Climb to the next generator and use a tentacle to reach a metal walkway and the crane operator.
- 9Climb onto the platform and prepare for waves of Assault Troopers and Captains. An EDF crate with Beer, an EDF Ammo Crate, explosives, a Devastator, and a Ripper are available.
- 10Wave 1: Defeat 4 Assault Troopers (max 3 at a time).
- 11Wave 2: Defeat 5 Assault Troopers (max 3 at a time).
- 12Wave 3: Defeat 2 Assault Trooper Captains and 2 Assault Troopers. Use the small enclosure on the right for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
- 13After the final enemies fall, the Octaking will arrive for a boss battle.

STRATEGY:
The Octaking has two phases. The first phase involves the Octaking spawning Octabrains and slowly firing energy balls. The second phase involves the Octaking destroying cover with thrown objects and then rapidly firing energy balls, leading your shots.
Phase One Strategy:
- Grab the Devastator near the control box.
- Get in some shots as the Octaking rises.
- Use a Beer as Octabrains fly towards you.
- Strafe back and forth along the edge, firing rockets until your Ego (health) is nearly depleted.
- Use the Holoduke (found earlier on a detour with a tentacle) when your Ego is low. Reload and fire as much as possible. Save Steroids for phase two if near death.
- After the Holoduke fades, if you have weakened him enough and killed the Octabrains, he will enter phase two.
Phase Two Strategy:
- Retreat into the small frame (cover).
- The Octaking will destroy all cover with thrown objects, but these can still damage you.
- Dodge the rapidly fired energy balls, which lead your shots.
- A Devastator and spare Beer are next to the control box and should be used during the battle.
- The companion barrel room earlier in the game provides a Shrink Ray, Holoduke, and Beer, which are useful for this fight.
- If you need a Holoduke, one can be found in an EDF crate on a detour around another tentacle, which takes you almost all the way back to the beginning of the generator room.
- If the fight during waves takes too long, the crane will stop moving until all enemies during a wave are cleared.
- You can break into a caged room that has a Ripper and an EDF crate with two Pipe Bombs.
- Underneath the stairs, behind the debris, you can find two Laser Trip Mines.
