Learn about the Ripper weapon in Duke Nukem Forever, including its damage, capacity, and first appearance in Vegas In Ruin.

First Appearance: Campaign: Vegas In Ruin; DLC (downloadable content — extra missions or items released after launch): Going Down

Damage:

  • Campaign: Easy 11.25, Normal 9, Hard 6.75, DiG 4.5
  • Headshot (Campaign): Easy 22.5, Normal 18, Hard 13.5, DiG 9
  • Multiplayer: 18

Stats:

  • Magazine Capacity: 50
  • Maximum Ammo Carried: 200
  • Rate of Fire (Avg.): 0.0867 seconds (Campaign & Multiplayer)
  • Melee Cooldown Time (Avg.): 0.84 seconds
  • Reload Time: 2.75 seconds
  • Enemy Drop: Yes
  • Multiplayer Respawn (be brought back to life at a checkpoint after death) Time: 20 seconds

Advantages:

  • Good at triggering a unit's pain reaction
  • High rate of fire
  • Bonus headshot damage

Drawbacks:

  • Cannot fire for long before needing to reload
  • Shots spread out over longer ranges

The Ripper has an impressive rate of fire, even though each shot does not do much damage. Use the Ripper to focus fire down single targets with ease. The Ripper behaves much like a sub-machine gun; effective up-close, but the shots tend to spread out over greater distances. Thus, it tends to overlap the role of the Shotgun, to an extent; better suited for close-quarters.

Campaign Specifics:

The Pistol and Ripper are the only weapons in Duke Nukem Forever capable of scoring (a critical hit to the head for extra damage) bonus damage. With the Ripper, however, this can be a lot more difficult to perform, except at point-blank range, due to the scattering nature of Ripper fire.

Multiplayer Specifics:

The first few shots fired by the Ripper are surprisingly accurate over greater distances, allowing for a single, well-precise bust to kill an opponent. After a few rounds, it will start losing accuracy and spread out over a greater radius. At longer ranges, stick with tapping the trigger button, instead of holding it down.

Glitch:

It is possible to bring the multiplayer damage base for the Ripper over to the campaign, doubling the effective damage. This was observed after playing a lengthy 1v1 Hail to the King round on Morningwood multiplayer. Afterwards, it was discovered playing the campaign that the Ripper was taking out enemies with half the required ammunition, less so with headshots (3 headshots to take out a Pigcop).
