Part 21

Learn how to unlock all Freeride settings and make money fast in Mafia: Definitive Edition by speeding or taking taxi missions.

Freeride Settings Availability:

• City-Small: Available at the start. Limits access to parts of the city and excludes Terranova Bridge, Chinatown, Oakwood, Oak Hill, or the countryside.
• City-Night: Available after mission 8, "Sarah/Better Get Used to It." Allows access to the whole city and countryside at night.
• Countryside-Night: Available after mission 8, "Sarah/Better Get Used to It." Same as City-Night, but Tommy starts in the countryside.
• City-Daytime: Available after mission 14, "Happy Birthday!" Allows access to the whole city and countryside during the daytime.
• Countryside-Daytime: Available after mission 14, "Happy Birthday!" Same as City-Daytime, but Tommy starts in the countryside.

Area Choices:

• City-Night and City-Daytime: Offer choices of Little Italy, Central Island, Down Town, and Hoboken.
• Countryside-Night and Countryside-Daytime: Offer choices of the China Town Exit, Dam, Lay By, and Motel. "Lay By" is a dirt lot at the side of the road convenient for reaching a bridge with cliffs for jumps.

Speeding for Money:

• Tommy gets $100 for every several seconds he drives over 70 mph. After completing the main story missions, this threshold increases to 105 mph.
• The fastest way to make money in 'Freeride' is to unlock 'Freeride Extreme' using the gimmick above, then unlock fast vehicles (like the HotRod, which can be used as a taxi). Even faster is using the gimmick to unlock 'Freeride Extreme' vehicles for 'Freeride' and then using these fast vehicles for taxi missions or driving fast in the country.
• Consider City-Day and taking a fast vehicle (like the HotRod) to the country north of Hoboken. Drive fast back and forth over the first long stretch of road for quick and easy money, as there are no police or gangsters in the country during 'Freeride'.

Taxi Missions for Money:

• A less risky way to earn initial money is by giving Taxi rides until you have at least a few thousand dollars, enough to pay $2,000 for saving at Salieri's Bar.
• While speeding in the country is faster, taxi missions are a safe option before unlocking the country.
• After saving the game, you'll have enough money for health restoration or police fines.
• Once a vehicle for a taxi mission is stopped by a waving pedestrian, you cannot control the vehicle until they enter. The destination is briefly shown, a compass appears pointing to it, and a blue X appears on the (minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen)) or a blue arrow points the way if it's off-map. A red X indicates the destination on the (radar (your minimap with nearby blips and threats marked)) when close.
• If an unwanted fare enters your taxi while parked, you can have Tommy remove them by jacking them out (RMB).

Police and Gangsters in Freeride:

• The rules for police in the main story apply to 'Freeride'.
• The speed thresholds for speeding offenses change after completing the main story missions. A minor offense changes from over 40 mph to over 60 mph (and not more than 70 mph, changing to not more than 105 mph). A major offense changes from over 70 mph to over 105 mph.
• Tommy must pay $1,000 for a minor offense if apprehended by a policeman in 'Freeride'.
