Understand the HUD, radar, compass, pocket watch, and map in Mafia: Definitive Edition. Learn what icons and colors mean for gameplay.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
HUD: Tommy's Health (0-100) is shown as a rectangle in the lower left. An ammo rectangle appears next to it if Tommy holds a gun, displaying current and total bullets. An exclamation point over the Health rectangle indicates an interactable object (press RMB). Other status messages, like companion health or wanted level (the star icons in the top-right showing how aggressively police pursue you) offenses, may also appear. When entering a car, the car's name briefly appears in the bottom left.
  2. 2
Radar: Located in the upper left when driving. Different colored lines represent vehicles: White for Tommy's vehicle or unlocked vehicles, Green for locked civilian cars, Blue for non-chasing police cars, Orange for non-chasing gangster cars (in "Freeride"), Red for chasing police or gangster cars, and Yellow for trolleys. A Red X (or blue X on the map) marks Tommy's current destination or target vehicle. During "Fairplay-Victory," it shows a racetrack outline. The speedometer, gas gauge, odometer, tachometer, transmission type (manual/automatic), and speed limiter are on the bottom right. The gear is shown above the speedometer needle. The odometer shows distance traveled. The gas gauge depletes faster if the engine is damaged, with a red light indicating low fuel. The tachometer (left of speedometer) helps with manual transmission shifting. An "M" or "A" indicates transmission type. Pressing F5 limits speed to 40 mph (60 mph after main story missions), shown by a yellow-orange diamond with the speed. Press F5 again to remove the limit.
  3. 3
Compass: Appears at the upper left of the radar, pointing to the mission destination (not necessarily the best route).
  4. 4
Pocket Watch: In the upper right corner during timed missions, showing time left with a moving hand and diminishing red slice. For periods under a minute, a second hand is used. In "Freeride," this area shows Tommy's current money.
  5. 5
Map (Tab): The Yellow arrow shows Tommy's position. A Blue X marks the mission destination. The map also displays Salieri's Bar, Lucas Bertone's auto service shop, gas stations (orange triangles), elevated railway and stations (blue), and trolley routes (yellow). It can show country roads and specific locations for obtaining a Lassiter V16 Police car during "A Trip to the Country."
  6. 6
Police: Wear blue uniforms and hats, except for undercover officers in light brown coats during certain story missions. They do not appear in the country during "Freeride."
Tips
  • Pay attention to the radar colors to identify different vehicles and their threat level.
  • Use the tachometer for precise gear shifting with a manual transmission.
  • The speed limiter (F5) can be useful for maintaining a specific speed, especially after completing the main story missions when it increases to 60 mph.
  • The pocket watch is crucial for managing time during timed missions.
  • In "Freeride," the upper right corner of the screen displays your current money.
