Learn how to wield Onmyo Magic and defeat the challenging Marume Nagayoshi in this Nioh 3 guide. Get tips on skills, talismans, and boss strategies.

Alright, so you're looking to dive into the mystical arts of Onmyo, huh? It's a smart move! Adding Onmyo to your arsenal will definitely make you a more formidable demon-slayer. Think of it like this: Onmyo Mages use the balance of Ki energy, the interplay of Dark and Light, to bend the world – and themselves – to their will. It’s super useful, and I’m here to walk you through it.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
First things first, head forward from where you start. You’ll see a marker – use it to grab the [_FAMED ONMYO MAGE'S LOCKS_]. This is like those ninja items we’ve seen before; it’ll give you a temporary boost of FIVE skill points. Use 'em wisely!
  2. 2
Now, open your menu and go to the “Learn Skills” section. Find and learn the “Fire Shot I” ability. You’ll notice you already have the “Talisman: Fire I” ability, which is handy.
  3. 3
Next up, head to the nearby SHRINE. Interact with it and select the “Ready Jutsu” option. This is where you’ll equip the Onmyo Magic you want to use. It works exactly like setting up your Ninjutsu – you can even use the TRIANGLE button to assign them as quick shortcuts from the main menu. Super convenient!
  4. 4
As soon as you step away from the shrine, get ready! A Sentry enemy is going to attack you. Don’t panic! Quickly use your Fire Emblem item. This will set your sword ablaze, dealing extra damage to the Sentry. With a few solid hits, you should be able to take it down. Just keep an eye on its attacks and try not to get hit too much.
  5. 5
Once that Sentry is down, the mission is complete! Just head through the door in the back to finish up and claim your rewards.

Boss Fight: Marume Nagayoshi

Alright, now for a little sparring session! It looks like you've gotten pretty good with your weapons, and now your “teacher,” Marume Nagayoshi, wants to test you himself. Don't expect him to go down easy like his students!

Objective: Fight with Marume Nagayoshi

This fight is pretty short, but it’s a good test of your endurance and reaction time. You’ll get three Elixirs to help you out, so use them if you need to.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Marume is very aggressive and uses his club for rapid combos.
  • He expends a lot of Ki when charging his attacks.
  • His combos change slightly when his health gets low.

Phases:

  1. Opening Phase: Marume will frequently charge forward with a 2-4 hit combo using his club. The key here is to dodge backward and create distance. He’ll burn through a lot of his Ki doing this, leaving him open for a counter-attack. You might even get a grapple opportunity.
  2. Lower Health Phase: As his health drops, Marume will switch to shorter, two-hit combos and might incorporate a jumping attack. Stay aware of these changes and keep up the pressure.

Strategy:

  • Dodge and Punish: The main strategy is to bait out Marume’s aggressive charges, dodge backward to avoid his combo, and then immediately counter-attack while he’s recovering his Ki.
  • Ki Management: Watch his Ki bar. When he’s depleted it with a big attack, that’s your window to strike.
  • Watch for New Moves: Be ready for his combo variations and the jumping attack when he’s low on health. Don’t get greedy; land a few hits and be ready to dodge again.
  • Use Elixirs Wisely: If you take too much damage, don't hesitate to use one of your Elixirs to get back into the fight.

After you defeat Marume, you’ll get your loot and the “How’s That?” gesture. It’s a pretty dramatic one, I like it!

  • Gesture: How's That?
  • Genius Strategist's Garb
  • Genius Strategist's Hakama
