Boss Fight: Derrick the Executioner
Derrick is an early-game boss, serving as a warm-up. He wields a large Executioner Axe, giving him some range. His primary close-range attack is a combo of up to three swings.
Stats / Weaknesses:
- Derrick is vulnerable to repeated dodges and counter-attacks when he uses his "Charge" attack.
- He has no new moves in his second phase, remaining susceptible to the same strategy.
Phases:
- Phase 1: Derrick uses his standard Axe Combo and Charge Attack. Bait the Charge Attack, dodge to the side, and counter-attack.
- Phase 2: Derrick becomes larger and more imposing but does not gain new moves. Continue to bait his Charge Attack and counter. When prompted, unleash your Living Weapon (CIRCLE + TRIANGLE) to trigger a cutscene and end the fight.
Strategy:
- Maintain a distance from Derrick to bait his "Charge" attack.
- When he charges, dodge to the side (typically left) and land a few hits.
- Repeat this strategy throughout the entire fight.
- In Phase 2, use your Living Weapon when prompted to finish the encounter.
Boss Moves:
- Axe Combo: Derrick performs up to three axe swings. Stay out of range, especially when trying to bait his Charge Attack.
- Charge Attack: Derrick charges forward with a slash. Dodge to the side and counter-attack. This is his primary exploitable move.
After the fight and subsequent cutscenes, you will encounter Edward Kelley. Following another cutscene, you will receive the "A Long Journey Begins" Bronze Trophy upon completing "The Man with the Guardian Spirit." A further cutscene will show William traveling to Japan.
Choose Your Preferred Weapon:
Before the next mission, you will choose your starting weapon:
- Sword: A single-handed slashing and thrusting weapon with good reach and balance, easy to use. Grants HEART +1.
- Dual Swords: A pair of swords. Grants SKILL +1.
