Learn a reliable trick to catch the roaming legendary Pokémon Mesprit and Cresselia in Pokémon Platinum by manipulating their locations and using Max Repels.
A user named Bloodpool was kind enough to send in some really neat info about catching those tricky roaming legendaries, Mesprit and Cresselia, in Pokémon Platinum! It’s a bit of a process, but totally doable if you’re patient.
- 1
The Setup: First off, you'll need a Pokémon with a level between 45 and 50. This is crucial for the Max Repel trick to work. Make sure you've got a good stock of Max Repels, too!
- 2
Forcing the Encounter: The core of this trick is understanding that Mesprit and Cresselia move around. The strategy is to repeatedly enter and exit the Valley Windworks and Route 205. By doing this, you're essentially forcing the legendaries to change routes. Keep doing this back and forth until you see one of them has moved into either the Valley Windworks or Route 205.
- 3
Tracking Them Down: Once you've confirmed the legendary is in either Valley Windworks or Route 205, it's time to hunt. Use a Max Repel. Then, put your level 45-50 Pokémon at the front of your party. Now, head into a grassy patch in the route where the legendary is located.
- If it's in Valley Windworks: You can just wander into the grass there.
- 4If it's in Route 205: You'll need to be a bit more specific. Look for the large grassy patch just above the Honey Tree, or the smaller patch near a ledge. To get to the second one, go down the stairs near the Hiker and head north.
- 5
Persistence is Key: Don't get discouraged if it takes a few tries! You might see them circling other areas, but they will eventually move to Route 205. For example, Cresselia might be near Sunyshore City, then move to routes west and north of it. Keep repeating the Valley Windworks and Route 205 shuffle. Eventually, it'll end up in one of those key spots. Bloodpool mentioned catching both this way, so stick with it!
- Having a Pokémon between levels 45-50 at the front of your party is essential for the Max Repel to keep out other wild Pokémon, letting you encounter the legendary.
- Keep track of which legendary you're hunting and where it seems to be moving. Sometimes they can end up in surprising places like Fuego Ironworks before circling back to the target routes.
- Patience is your best friend here. These Pokémon are designed to be elusive, but this method gives you a much higher chance of cornering them.
