Discover how to use Honey Trees in Pokémon Platinum to catch rare Pokémon like Heracross and Munchlax. Learn locations, waiting times, and Pokémon appearances.

Honey Trees in Pokémon Platinum function similarly to the Headbutt feature in older games, offering a unique method to encounter specific Pokémon. Four Pokémon can only be obtained through Honey Trees.

To use a Honey Tree, you first need the Honey item. Honey can be purchased for 100 Pokédollars (p) each in Floaroma Meadow. You cannot buy Honey in bulk. Alternatively, a Combee with the Honey Gather ability can sometimes find Honey after a battle.

There are 21 Honey Trees scattered across Sinnoh:

  • Route 205: 2
  • Route 206: 1
  • Route 207: 1
  • Route 208: 1
  • Route 209: 1
  • Route 210: 2
  • Route 211: 1
  • Route 212: 2
  • Route 213: 1
  • Route 214: 1
  • Route 215: 1
  • Route 218: 1
  • Route 221: 1
  • Route 222: 1
  • Floaroma Meadow: 1
  • Near Valley Windworks: 1
  • Near Fuego Ironworks: 1
  • Near Eterna Forest: 1

These trees are generally found in most areas, excluding snowy routes, early routes before Floaroma Meadow, water routes, the Battle Zone, and areas around the Pokémon League.

To use a Honey Tree, approach it and press 'A' to apply Honey. This action costs one Honey per tree. While you can apply Honey multiple times, it doesn't significantly alter the outcome.

After applying Honey, you must wait approximately 8-12 hours for a Pokémon to appear. The following Pokémon can be encountered:

PokemonRarity
WurmpleCommon
CombeeCommon
SilcoonUncommon (Diamond)
CascoonUncommon (Pearl)
BurmyUncommon
AipomUncommon
CherubiUncommon
HeracrossRare
MunchlaxRare

Most of these Pokémon, except for Wurmple, Silcoon, and Cascoon, are exclusive to Honey Trees. The game determines the Pokémon that will appear before you arrive, though its level and gender can be influenced by saving and resetting. There is no known way to influence the specific species that appears at a given tree.

To maximize your chances of finding a specific rare Pokémon, it is recommended to apply Honey to as many trees as possible and check them after about 6 hours. Covering all 21 trees would cost 2,100p if Honey is purchased, or less if using Combee's Honey Gather ability.

Male Combee are not particularly useful. If you catch one, breeding is the best way to obtain a female. Munchlax is known to carry Leftovers, so consider using a Pokémon with the Thief move if you intend to steal the item rather than catch Munchlax.

The Pokémon will only remain at the tree for about a day before disappearing. Changing the DS system clock does not affect the Honey Trees.

Note: Some players have observed that the location of the tree may influence the types of Pokémon that appear, though the specifics are not fully understood.
