||Getting Heatran||

Learn how to find and catch the legendary Fire/Steel-type Pokémon Heatran in Pokémon Platinum. Get tips on the best Pokémon and moves to use for the battle.

Alright, so you've made it to Stark Mountain and dealt with Charon's little scheme. Looker swooped in, arrested him, and now Buck's grandpa wants you to head back to the Survival Area. Go chat with him at the Battleground cafe, and he'll give you the green light to go back to Stark Mountain and face Heatran in the same room where Charon was nabbed.

Heatran Battle Info:

• Level: 50
• Type: Fire/Steel
• Weaknesses: Water, Fighting, and especially Ground-type moves.
• Tips: Heatran is a bit of an oddball legendary since it has a gender, meaning moves like Attract can actually work to stall it. Your best bet is to bring a strong Water-type Pokémon, like Empoleon if you picked Piplup, or a really powerful Ground-type. A Pokémon that knows False Swipe will be super helpful for getting its HP low without knocking it out. Since its catch rate is super low, be prepared to use a lot of Ultra Balls – maybe even up to 50! Dark Balls might also give you an edge.
• Reader Tip: Bringing a Pokémon with the Flash Fire ability is a game-changer. It makes them immune to Heatran's Fire-type attacks like Lava Plume and Fire Spin. This leaves Heatran with only Iron Head, which doesn't do much damage to a Fire-type anyway. If you can also paralyze Heatran early on, you'll save a ton of turns you'd otherwise spend healing your own Pokémon.

Once you've caught Heatran, there isn't a whole lot left to do in Stark Mountain besides grabbing a few items using Rock Climb. So, head back to the entrance.
