Understand the Key for Pokémon Platinum's Pokedex, including Pokemon Name, Type, Location, Evolution Line, Ability, Egg Group, Moves, TM/HM List, Base Stats, and Move Tutors.

Pokedex Number: This indicates the current Pokedex number of a Pokémon.

Pokemon Name: This is the name of the Pokémon.

Type: This refers to the Element Type of a Pokémon. A Pokémon can have up to two types, and these can change depending on its form.

Location: This specifies where you can find the Pokémon.

Evolution Line: This lists the evolutions for a given Pokémon Type.

Ability: This is the Ability a Pokémon may have when you obtain it. If a Pokémon has only one ability, it will always have that ability. If it has two, there is a split chance that your Pokémon may have one of those abilities when you catch or hatch it. If your Pokémon gains a different ability upon evolution, it will overwrite the previous one.

Egg Group: Egg Groups are a hidden value that determines which Pokémon can breed with each other. The names are not displayed, and the Nintendo Power Guide's names are used as they are the closest to official.

Moves: These are the battle moves a Pokémon can learn by leveling up. Some moves require visiting a move teacher and using an item (such as a Heart Scale) to learn them, while others require a Pokémon to either not evolve or to evolve to learn the move. The move list can slightly change in special editions and is significantly overhauled in each generation.

Egg Moves: Egg Moves can only be learned when one of the parents knows that move. These moves are pre-set, and you can only obtain the moves listed in the Pokedex. They tend to change only with new generations.

TM and HM List: This is a list of the TMs (Technical Machines) and HMs (Hidden Machines) a Pokémon can learn. If only a specific Pokémon in an evolution line can learn a TM or HM, a note will be next to the TM name indicating which Pokémon can learn it.

Base Stats: Base stats provide an overall view of a Pokémon's potential stat levels. They are not the starting stats but give a general idea of how well a Pokémon performs in a specific stat. Stats of 50 or below are considered average, 60-80 are average, and 90 or above are above average.

Move Tutors: In Generation III and IV, various move tutors can teach specific moves to a Pokémon. These can then be transferred to the 4th generation, which may not always have the same move tutors. If a Pokémon is from XD, it gains the move by purifying it.
