Learn how to connect My Pokémon Ranch to Pokémon Platinum, understand transfer options, and discover how to obtain special Pokémon through trades with Hayley.
Please Note: My Pokémon Ranch is currently only available to Japanese Platinum users on a Japanese Wii with a Japanese copy of My Pokémon Ranch. It can be used with D/P but not Platinum.
My Pokémon Ranch, first released in the US on June 9, 2008, is the 4th Generation equivalent of Pokémon Box. It allows players to manage their Pokémon on a ranch via the Wii. Similar to previous versions, players can obtain various Pokémon with some differences by completing specific in-game actions.
Connecting and Basics:
- Start My Pokémon Ranch. If it's your first time, complete the tutorial and select your Miis. Hayley will then place six Pokémon on the ranch, granting you access.
- Press A to bring up the menu.
- Click the DS icon in the upper left corner to initiate the connection process.
- Turn on your DS with Pokémon Platinum and navigate to the start screen.
- Select "Connect to Wii." If the option doesn't appear, press B to return to the selection screen and try again.
- Once connected, you will have four options:
- Transfer: Allows you to move Pokémon from your in-game PC boxes to the ranch. The number of Pokémon you can transfer is limited by your ranch's level, which increases as you deposit more Pokémon.
- Withdraw: Lets you return Pokémon from the ranch to your PC boxes. You can only withdraw your own Pokémon or those traded from Hayley.
- Save: Saves progress in both My Pokémon Ranch and Pokémon Platinum.
- See ya!: Ends the connection.
Important Notes:
- You do not need to be at a Pokémon Center to transfer Pokémon to My Pokémon Ranch, but only Pokémon in your PC boxes can be transferred, not those in your party.
- If a Pokémon holds an HM that you require and it's the only Pokémon with that HM, you will be unable to transfer it.
Obtainable Pokémon:
My Pokémon Ranch allows you to obtain up to 22 additional Pokémon through trades with Hayley. There are two ways to initiate trades:
- Request Trades: Initially, Hayley will provide requests requiring you to transfer specific Pokémon from D/P to the Ranch, usually ones already in your Pokédex. Completing a request earns you another. Occasionally, Hayley will offer one of her Pokémon in exchange for one of your requested Pokémon, which is the primary way to acquire most trades.
- Special Trades: These are rarer trades, with only two available. They become accessible once you have a certain number of Pokémon on your ranch. Hayley will then introduce a special Pokémon the following day, in addition to her usual daily Pokémon, and issue a special request. For example, she might request a Leafeon for a Phione once you have 250 Pokémon on the ranch.
The following Pokémon can be obtained through trades, often with unique moves (Egg moves or TM moves). All traded Pokémon have Hayley as their Original Trainer (OT) and an ID number of 01000:
