Learn essential fighting tactics for Resident Evil, including evading zombies, conserving ammo, strategic firing, and effective use of defense items to survive.
Walkthrough
- 1Evade Zombies: Utilize the auto-turn feature with the C-Stick to evade zombies. Be aware that zombies, especially Crimson Heads, have excellent tracking. Move quietly around zombies to conserve ammo and avoid unnecessary fights. Unlike Resident Evil Zero, items can only be swapped and accessed at item boxes.
- 2Conserve Ammo: Resident Evil is challenging, and ammo can be depleted quickly, especially against enemies like the Tyrant and Hunters. Primarily use your Handgun and Knife (if skilled) to conserve ammunition. For Chris and Jill, consider using the Fuel Canteen to save ammo, as Chris has fewer weapon options.
- 3Fire from a Distance: Engage Hunters and Chimeras from a distance using weapons like the Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, and Handgun. For zombies, close-range shots are more effective.
- 4Decapitate Zombies: The Shotgun and sometimes the Handgun can decapitate zombies. Chris is more likely to achieve this with the Handgun than Jill. To decapitate with the Shotgun, get close, aim upwards, and fire. If a zombie was previously stabbed with a Dagger Knife, a Shotgun Shell can result in a decapitation and potentially yield a Dagger Knife.
- 5Carry Healing Items: Always keep at least one Green Herb and one First Aid Spray. Green Herbs are effective for minor damage (like falls), while First Aid Sprays are crucial for sudden health drops from Hunters or Chimeras, which can quickly deplete health from Fine to Orange Caution. Mixed Herbs that fully heal are also beneficial.
- 6Make Multiple Saves: For new players, it's highly recommended to make at least three saves. Designate save points for different game sections, such as the mansion and after the Plant 42 fight. Multiple saves allow you to revert to an earlier point if you make mistakes like running out of ammo or losing a partner character, preventing the need to replay large sections.
- 7Use Defense Items Wisely: Defense Items like Battery Packs, Flash Grenades, and Dagger Knives are invaluable. They take up no inventory space. When used, they can distract zombies, allowing you to shoot them, and sometimes even result in an automatic kill. Battery Packs can sometimes kill monsters almost instantly. When using Flash Grenades, ensure you are at a safe distance to avoid damage from the explosion. You can hold multiple defense items and switch between them in the item screen. It's generally best to use Dagger Knives first as they are the least powerful.
- 8Lisa Trevor Cannot Die (Permanently): Lisa Trevor cannot be killed until the final battle. During encounters, such as in the altar section, you must either push stones off the chasm or shoot her down it. Even powerful weapons like the Rocket Launcher will only temporarily incapacitate her. Avoiding her is often the best strategy, as she can inflict significant damage quickly. Lisa is intelligent and can jump, similar to the Nemesis.
- 9Use the Fuel Canteen: To permanently kill a zombie, it must be burned or decapitated. Jill can also use Napalm Grenades with her Grenade Launcher to burn zombies.
