The events of July 24th in Resident Evil are revealed to be a calculated conspiracy orchestrated by Umbrella. The company's secret Bio-Organic Weapon (BOW) laboratory, located within a mansion, was the origin of the T-Virus, the cause of the forest murders. Initially, Umbrella tasked the narrator with luring S.T.A.R.S. members to the mansion to serve as test subjects for their combat data analysis against BOWs.

The S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team was deployed first, providing valuable data before their demise. Subsequently, Alpha Team was sent under the guise of a search and rescue mission for Bravo Team. Many Alpha Team members, including Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Barry Burton, also perished, leaving only five survivors from the initial eleven S.T.A.R.S. members: Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca Chambers, and Enrico Marini.

The narrator's true objective was to obtain Umbrella's ultimate BOW, the Tyrant, and defect to an opposing corporation. To achieve this, the narrator needed the Tyrant's combat data, and the surviving S.T.A.R.S. members were to be used as bait. Barry Burton, manipulated through threats to his family, was chosen to betray the others and lead them to the Tyrant.

Despite the high potential of Chris and Jill, the plan initially proceeded as intended with Barry's betrayal. However, Enrico Marini discovered the truth behind the events and had to be eliminated, with Barry being used to facilitate this. The narrator then awaited a sample specimen from Barry in the Tyrant room, injecting a virus obtained from Birkin. This virus was designed to induce a temporary state of death, followed by a revival with superhuman powers, allowing the narrator to fake their death and facilitate the transfer to the opposing corporation.

The plan unraveled when S.T.A.R.S. managed to defeat the Tyrant, resulting in the loss of the BOW and the failure of the narrator's scheme, which had cost them their humanity. This failure fueled a desire for revenge against S.T.A.R.S., vowing to terminate anyone who stood in their way.
